Inaugural Abu Dhabi World Grappling Championship Kicks Off Tomorrow In Al Ain Region
The Abu Dhabi World Grappling Championship 2025 is set to commence on 1st August at the ADNEC Centre in Al Ain. Organised by International Vision Sports Management (IVSM), this three-day event will conclude on 3rd August. It aims to gather hundreds of athletes from over 20 countries, showcasing the region's commitment to promoting combat sports.
The championship is a collaborative effort with the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT) and operates under the Abu Dhabi Jiu-Jitsu Pro (AJP) banner. A press conference was held at ADNEC Centre Al Ain, attended by Saeed Al Dhaheri, Director of Destination Management at DCT, and Tareq Al Bahri, General Manager of IVSM. Prominent athletes like Fellipe Andrew from Brazil and Salem Al Qubaisi from the UAE were also present.

Saeed Al Dhaheri highlighted that hosting this championship marks a significant achievement for the Middle East and North Africa. He stated, "Hosting the inaugural edition of the Abu Dhabi World Grappling Championship in Al Ain Region is an unprecedented milestone for the Middle East and North Africa region. It reflects the growth of the sports sector in the UAE and strengthens our position as a global hub for elite combat sports events."
Al Dhaheri further explained that this event aligns with DCT’s strategic vision to cater to the increasing global interest in combat sports like grappling. He emphasised that sports have the power to unite people, boost tourism, and offer unique experiences, especially in culturally rich areas like Al Ain.
The championship will kick off with professional matches and those in the 35+ category on day one, progressing to semi-finals. The second day will focus on youth and amateur divisions. The final day will feature third-place playoffs and championship finals for professionals. Winners will earn 2,000 AJP ranking points along with significant cash rewards.
Tareq Al Bahri expressed confidence in delivering a seamless experience for participants and spectators alike. He noted that strong international participation underscores both the sport’s rapid growth globally and Abu Dhabi’s reputation as a premier destination for combat sports.
Future Opportunities for Athletes
Al Bahri announced plans for future opportunities: "The launch of this championship aligns with the vision of our wise leadership to advance sports development in the country. We aim to create a platform that welcomes athletes from around the globe, enabling them to compete at a professional level while positioning the Al Ain Region as a key host city for international combat sports events."
He confirmed that top male and female athletes from this event and other Grand Prix Grappling World Tour events will qualify for next year’s Abu Dhabi Extreme Championship. Their names will be disclosed after the 2026 edition of this championship.
This initiative not only highlights Abu Dhabi's growing influence in hosting major sporting events but also opens new avenues for grappling athletes worldwide.
