Sheikh Sultan Bin Ahmed Discusses Enhancing Teamwork Among Media Entities In Sharjah
H.H. Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and Chairman of the Sharjah Media Council, recently led a meeting at Buhais Geology Park. He expressed gratitude to the organisations under the council for their continuous efforts in enhancing media quality in the emirate. He praised local media institutions for their achievements in improving media messages' quality and purpose.
The meeting addressed several key topics, including strategies to enhance the media environment and foster collaboration among Sharjah's media organisations. The aim is to integrate efforts, share knowledge, and strengthen Sharjah's communication identity both locally and globally. The council also reviewed the first draft of the Sharjah Media Policy, which seeks to regulate media operations in the emirate.
This policy aims to ensure transparency, trustworthiness, and improved quality in media coverage while promoting Sharjah's cultural identity and values. Additionally, a report from the Sharjah Broadcasting Authority was discussed, highlighting updates on new programming and channel performance. Plans for future programs were outlined to enhance viewer and listener experiences.
The council examined a study by the Sharjah Government Media Bureau (SGMB) on government communication's current state in the emirate. This study identified challenges and opportunities while highlighting upcoming events organised by SGMB. Discussions also included plans for a "Smart Media Platform" to improve communication between government bodies and the public.
The meeting also covered a report on Sharjah Media City (Shams), detailing its latest projects aimed at attracting local and international media companies. This initiative seeks to create a supportive environment for media businesses, elevating Sharjah's status as a regional media hub.
The Chairman assessed departmental performances within the Council. The Media Activities Department reported a 60 percent increase in filming permits issued for ground, aerial, and marine filming. The Government Communication Department highlighted its partnership-building efforts, marketing materials creation, event organisation, and media content production.
Enhancing Governance and Financial Management
The Strategy Department discussed performance metrics documentation to improve governance within the Council. The Support Services Department shared accomplishments like Emiratisation initiatives—hiring locals—training programmes, and employee support. The Finance Department presented plans for responsible financial management.
The Information Technology Department highlighted significant tech projects and support provided. Meanwhile, the Public Services Department showcased excellent services offered to staff and partners. Afterward, H.H. Sheikh Sultan visited Buhais Geology Park to learn about Earth's history through archaeological sites and natural features.
Exploring Buhais Geology Park
At Buhais Geology Park, H.H. Sheikh Sultan explored exhibits showcasing fossils and ancient sea creatures that once inhabited the area. He learned about how natural features like rocks, sand dunes, and gravel plains are formed over time.
He also visited facilities offering educational activities for all ages while understanding how Hajar Mountains formed around 93 million years ago with signs of human habitation dating back 125,000 years.
The meeting was attended by key figures including Tariq Saeed Allay from SGMB; Hassan Yaqoub Al Mansouri from Sharjah Media Council; Rashid Abdullah Al Obaid from Shams; Salem Ali Al Ghaithi from Sharjah Broadcasting Authority; Alia Bu Ghanem Al Suwaidi from SGMB; Hessa Abdullah Al Hammadi from Sharjah Media Council.
