Saudi Arabia Emphasizes Global Collaboration To Address Water Challenges And Sustainability
Saudi Arabia has highlighted the critical need for enhanced global cooperation in the water sector. The Kingdom stresses implementing integrated water resources management to tackle water scarcity and ensure sustainable development. This was underscored during Saudi Arabia's participation in the "Value of Water Community" forum in Rome, Italy, where discussions focused on Italy's water challenges, including climate change impacts and declining groundwater levels.
The Deputy Minister for Water at the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture, Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Shaibani, noted that Saudi Vision 2030 places a strong emphasis on water sustainability as a key component of national growth. Given the Kingdom's natural water scarcity, comprehensive strategies have been put in place to improve water efficiency and balance supply with demand.

Dr. Al-Shaibani highlighted the National Water Strategy 2030, which seeks to develop alternative water sources and reduce reliance on non-renewable groundwater through desalination. The strategy also aims to enhance distribution networks and minimize water loss. These efforts are crucial for ensuring long-term sustainability in Saudi Arabia.
Saudi Arabia's global initiatives in the water sector were also emphasized by Dr. Al-Shaibani. The Kingdom actively participates in international forums like the G20 and collaborates with United Nations organizations to address global water challenges. These efforts demonstrate Saudi Arabia's commitment to contributing to worldwide solutions.
Investment opportunities within Saudi Arabia's water sector were also discussed by Dr. Al-Shaibani. He pointed out the significant role of private-sector partnerships and investments in advanced technologies. Contributions to scientific research and infrastructure development are seen as vital components for advancing the sector.
The forum provided a platform for discussing Italy’s key challenges in its water sector, such as climate change effects and declining groundwater levels. It also highlighted the necessity for developing advanced technologies to ensure sustainable management of water resources.
Saudi Arabia’s participation in international initiatives reflects its dedication to addressing global water issues collaboratively. By focusing on integrated management practices, the Kingdom aims to overcome its own challenges while contributing positively on an international scale.
