Experts Emphasise Importance Of AI Competencies At AURAK Industry Colloquium

Industry and government experts recently gathered at the American University of Ras Al Khaimah (AURAK) for an Industry Colloquium titled ‘Bridging Innovations.’ The event focused on AI-driven innovations and tools. Speakers from various sectors, including IT, retail, and public utilities, emphasised that AI and digitalisation are crucial for transformative developments in industries and everyday life.

Dr. David A. Schmidt, President of AURAK, remarked that the colloquium reflects the belief that knowledge is most valuable when applied to real-world challenges. He stated, "Fostering impactful industry collaborations is not just our goal; it’s a cornerstone of our mission. This Colloquium celebrates that commitment. It is an opportunity to showcase the work happening across our campus, amplified through partnerships with companies, organizations, and innovators."

AI Competencies Highlighted at AURAK Event

Noura Al Awadi from Microsoft highlighted the importance of upskilling as a key differentiator in transitioning from education to careers. She noted that new skill sets are required, such as adaptability to technologies, communication skills, critical thinking, problem-solving abilities, teamwork, and digital literacy. She stressed that AI competencies extend beyond tech roles into virtually every field.

Ahmad Murad of Transmed shared how AI has transformed logistics and transportation within the company. He cited improvements in warehousing, financial intelligence, sales strategies, product recommendations, and inventory management due to AI integration.

Muhammed Eassa from RAK Transport Authority discussed Ras Al Khaimah’s strategy for sustainable transport. The plan aims to provide safe and smart transportation solutions powered by AI. Utkarsh Jain from RAK Municipality highlighted their strategy towards a data-driven future using IT solutions for energy management and traffic control.

Aghiles Mitiche from Julphar showcased how AI enhances operations excellence through predictive maintenance and smart scheduling. The use of digital twins and automated visual inspection also contributes to compliance and safety improvements.

Data Empowerment and Economic Transformation

Ichrak Lafram from the RAK Statistics Centre explained how timely data empowers government decisions and supports innovation. Nikhil Chaturvedi of RAK Ceramics discussed digitalisation benefits in manufacturing through academic-industry collaboration.

Rashed Iqbal from RAK's Investment Office highlighted AI tools' role in managing assets long-term for economic transformation into a globally competitive economy.

AURAK students also showcased their innovations and research projects during the event's sidelines.
