IMCTC Secretary General Major General Al-Moghedi Meets UN Counter-Terrorism Official Alexandre Zouev

Major General Pilot Mohammed Al-Moghedi, Secretary General of the Islamic Military Counter Terrorism Coalition (IMCTC), recently met with Alexandre Zouev, Acting Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT), in Riyadh. Their discussions focused on the IMCTC's strategic vision for combating terrorism through ideological, media, financial, and military means. They also explored programs to enhance member states' readiness against cross-border threats.

Zouev commended the IMCTC's efforts as a global platform uniting countries for coordinated action. He noted the UN's interest in partnerships that build capacity, tackle extremism's root causes, and promote moderation. The importance of unifying international and regional efforts was stressed to address complex terrorism threats intertwined with organized crime and cyber challenges.

IMCTC and UN Discuss Counter-Terrorism Efforts

The coalition emphasized its support for regional and international counter-terrorism efforts. This includes specialized training, sharing experiences, and developing joint operational tools. These initiatives aim to counter terrorism and its financing effectively.

In February 2025, the IMCTC signed a memorandum with the UN Counter-Terrorism Centre. This agreement aims to enhance joint work against terrorist threats through specialized training and knowledge exchange. It also supports initiatives that strengthen member states' capabilities while aligning with the United Nations Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy.

The memorandum is designed to bolster regional and global security by coordinating efforts in counter-terrorism. It underscores the commitment to enhancing stability through collaborative actions among member states.

The IMCTC's role in supporting pertinent efforts is crucial. By focusing on capacity-building and promoting coexistence, it contributes significantly to global security initiatives.
