Iftar Tradition In Turaif Highlights Community Values Of Compassion And Hospitality During Ramadan

The town of Turaif in Saudi Arabia's Northern Borders region is known for its rich tradition of hosting iftar during Ramadan. Ali Shabeeb Al-Balawi shared with the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) that his family continues to host iftar as a tribute to charity during Ramadan, a tradition inherited from their late father. "It is an annual practice we inherited and continue with gratitude. We prepare for it well in advance, and even the younger members of the family take part in it," he explained.

Ahmed Al-Banaqi emphasized the widespread involvement in this tradition, noting that every neighborhood has at least three homes welcoming fasting individuals. This reflects Turaif's deeply rooted culture of hospitality. The open doors during Ramadan are a testament to the community's commitment to maintaining these values.

Fathi Abu Suleiman, an Egyptian resident, recalled his experience with this tradition since arriving in Saudi Arabia over 35 years ago. "I arrived in Saudi Arabia over 35 years ago, and ever since, I have witnessed this beautiful tradition. Every Ramadan, you see open doors and well-prepared iftar spreads, reflecting the generosity and hospitality of the people of this blessed country," he remarked.

This longstanding custom not only strengthens communal bonds but also fosters a sense of belonging among residents and newcomers alike. The act of sharing meals during Ramadan serves as a reminder of the importance of unity and compassion within the community.
