Sharjah Ruler Emphasises Identity And Heritage Preservation As National Duty

His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, emphasised the significance of identity in building a robust society. He highlighted the need to preserve both tangible heritage, like historical artefacts and landmarks, and intangible heritage, such as traditional songs and dances. His Highness urged citizens to contribute positively to their homeland and maintain national unity.

During a telephone interview on the "Direct Line" programme broadcast by Sharjah Broadcasting Authority, H.H. Sheikh Dr. Sultan explained the Arabic term "Al Zubarah." Speaking with Mohammed Hassan Khalaf, Director-General of the Authority, he responded to a public inquiry about this term. "Someone asked about the meaning of the word ‘Al Zubarah’, so I would like to clarify that in Arabic, ‘Al Zubarah’ means ‘building’. Stones that are stacked on top of each other are referred to as ‘Zabarah’. For example, the phrase ‘Zabar Al Bi’r’ means ‘to place a stone inside (the well)’."

Sharjah Ruler on Identity and Heritage Duty

H.H. Sheikh Dr. Sultan stressed that preserving heritage requires active practice. He stated that children must witness and engage in cultural practices to retain this knowledge. "We care about heritage, whether tangible, such as antiquities; or intangible things like chants, songs, music, and traditional dance. People will only be able to preserve their heritage through practice. We want to preserve this heritage in the hearts of our children and not allow them to forget it." This educational process is crucial for maintaining identity within society.

The Ruler of Sharjah also advised against unnecessary disputes on social media. He called for responsible digital engagement among citizens. His Highness encouraged individuals to focus on positive contributions rather than engaging in online arguments.

H.H. Sheikh Dr. Sultan highlighted individual responsibilities in protecting their community and environment from negative influences. "God willing, we will reach a stage where every individual will be responsible for protecting their community—starting with preserving and defending the environment, as well as protecting society from gossip, vices, abominations, and anything foreign." He emphasised that these responsibilities begin at home and extend throughout the nation.

In his concluding remarks, His Highness offered fatherly advice to younger generations: "We tell our sons and daughters that this society is a trust, so give yourselves the opportunity to give back to the nation, starting with kind words and avoiding bad language." He urged them to rise above social media squabbles and protect their country’s legacy.

The Ruler expressed hope for future generations' awareness of their religious and societal duties: "God willing, all of our future generations will be aware of their religious, national, and societal responsibilities." His message underscored the importance of unity and cultural preservation for a strong society.
