ICBA And Al Rostamani Group Inaugurate New Training And Agricultural Research Facilities In Dubai
The International Center for Biosaline Agriculture (ICBA) has opened new facilities at its Dubai headquarters, including a Training and Knowledge Transfer Building, a Plant Tissue Culture Laboratory, and an Integrated Agri-Aquaculture System. These developments were fully funded by the Al Rostamani Group, marking a significant step in ICBA's mission to promote sustainable agriculture and innovation.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Amna bint Abdullah Al Dahak, Minister of Climate Change and Environment, along with other notable figures such as Mohammed Salman Al Hammadi, Assistant Under-Secretary for the Food Diversity Sector. The event followed the foundation-stone ceremony held in September 2024.

Amna bint Abdullah Al Dahak highlighted the importance of these facilities for agricultural innovation in the UAE. She emphasised ICBA’s role in the National Food Security Strategy 2051 and its pioneering efforts in enabling crops to grow in saline and arid conditions. "The project demonstrates how private sector support can accelerate climate-smart agriculture and expand national capabilities," she stated.
Tarifa Al Zaabi, Director-General of ICBA, noted that the inauguration showcases the power of collaboration in advancing science and sustainability. She explained that the Training Centre will aid farmers, researchers, and policymakers. Meanwhile, the Plant Tissue Culture Laboratory and Integrated Agri-Aquaculture System will develop water-efficient models suitable for arid environments.
Marwan Abdulla Al Rostamani, Chairman of Al Rostamani Group, expressed that their funding reflects a commitment to social responsibility and belief in long-term project impacts. He mentioned that these facilities align with national goals for environmental sustainability and food security.
The new buildings feature multipurpose training halls accommodating up to 300 participants. They also include a laboratory designed for plant propagation research on species like date palms and mangroves. An integrated system supports applied studies on sustainable food production and efficient water use.
Advancing Agricultural Innovation
This inauguration signifies a new phase in ICBA’s mission to enhance agricultural innovation across the UAE and beyond. By merging advanced research with practical training, ICBA continues to support the national vision for a sustainable, knowledge-based agricultural sector.
The initiative underscores the UAE's dedication to science-based solutions aimed at improving food security and climate resilience. It also highlights how partnerships between public institutions and private entities can drive progress in climate-smart agriculture.
