Saudi Human Rights Commission Launches Expert In Human Rights Programme To Train National Cadres
The Saudi Human Rights Commission (HRC) President, Dr. Hala Al-Tuwaijri, introduced the "Expert in Human Rights" program during a ceremony on Monday evening. The event was attended by numerous officials from both local and international human rights sectors. Dr. Al-Tuwaijri expressed gratitude to King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman for their continuous support in promoting human rights within Saudi Arabia.
Dr. Al-Tuwaijri explained that the program's goal is to train national professionals in various human rights fields, equipping them with theoretical knowledge, practical skills, and essential personal abilities. The initiative also seeks to leverage the expertise of both local and international human rights specialists, aligning with Saudi Vision 2030 and the Kingdom's commitment to sustainable development goals.

Prince Turki bin Faisal bin Abdulaziz, Chairman of the King Faisal Center for Research and Islamic Studies (KFCRIS), highlighted the Kingdom's dedication to human rights under its wise leadership. He noted that Vision 2030 has broadened opportunities for citizens, residents, and visitors, particularly in human rights areas. The program is seen as a significant step by the commission towards advancing these goals.
Nikhil Seth, UN Assistant Secretary-General and Executive Director of UNITAR, underscored the importance of international human rights law in fostering just societies. He praised the UN's role in developing this framework and stressed enhancing national capacities for human rights promotion and protection. Seth acknowledged Saudi Arabia's leadership in this field and its efforts to implement theory into practice through global cooperation.
Seth also emphasized UNITAR's commitment to ensuring the program's success. He stated that training in human rights empowers individuals, raises awareness, and strengthens justice, equality, and peace foundations. This initiative reflects Saudi Arabia's dedication to translating theoretical commitments into practical actions on an international scale.
Alex Mejia, Director of UNITAR's Division for People and Social Inclusion, described the "Expert in Human Rights" program as a model for global communities. He mentioned its potential evolution into a Master's program offering a sustainable educational path. Mejia highlighted that understanding human rights dynamics at all levels empowers individuals and fosters awareness.
Mejia further elaborated that human rights are fundamental to all aspects of development, governance, community well-being, and social justice. This ensures inclusivity while contributing to better societies for everyone involved.
