Saudi Arabia Highlights National Efforts To Combat Human Trafficking On World Day Against Trafficking In Persons

Saudi Arabia is actively working to tackle human trafficking, a severe violation of human dignity. On July 30, the nation marks the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, as declared by the United Nations General Assembly. This day serves to heighten global awareness and foster collective action against this crime. Saudi Arabia reaffirms its dedication to international agreements and stresses safeguarding individuals from exploitation.

The Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development is pivotal in Saudi Arabia's commitment to combating human trafficking. It employs legislative and executive systems to prevent exploitation, protect individuals, and ensure workplace justice. The ministry's efforts led to the Cabinet approving the National Policy for the Elimination of Forced Labor, a pioneering initiative in the Gulf region.

This policy aims to establish a work environment that upholds rights based on Islamic values and international standards. It includes principles like improving working conditions, adopting a comprehensive government approach, focusing on victim-centered responses, and ensuring justice without discrimination.

The ministry has implemented various strategies to prevent work-related crimes and reduce their effects. These include initiatives to enhance contractual relationships and guidelines for domestic workers. Additionally, electronic recruitment advertisements have been organized alongside awareness campaigns about rights and responsibilities.

In the first quarter of this year, the ministry received 124 reports related to human trafficking. It also conducted over 61,500 proactive field inspections aimed at protecting workers and ensuring compliance among businesses. These actions are part of broader efforts to safeguard worker rights.

The ministry also engages in coordination and execution tasks such as planning, policy development, system monitoring, and capacity building. It strengthens monitoring mechanisms, facilitates access to support services, and holds meetings with diplomatic and regulatory bodies to affirm rights protection.

Under Vision 2030, the ministry emphasizes its legislative, regulatory, and awareness-raising roles. This vision places individuals at the heart of development while reinforcing justice, dignity, and rights across all life aspects. The ministry highlights that human trafficking is forbidden by Islam and law.
