Experts Emphasise Human Element's Importance In AI-Driven Storytelling At Xposure Festival
The ongoing 9th edition of the Xposure International Photography Festival in Sharjah hosted a panel discussion titled "From Imagination to Reality: The Power of World-Building." Digital creators explored the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and modern technology in storytelling. They agreed that human adaptability remains vital despite technological advancements.
Siraj Jhaveri, a director with experience spanning three decades across various media, likened today's digital creative environment to the era when electricity was invented. He noted the rapid growth in digital content creation. Jhaveri highlighted AI's potential to replace traditional knowledge, urging newcomers to world-building to read stories for a deeper understanding of human experiences.

Creative Director Yohan Wadia discussed AI's dual nature, capable of creating worlds at an unprecedented pace. He emphasized the need for creators to connect deeply with audiences as tools like Unreal Engine and generative AI continue to evolve. Wadia also mentioned that while creative tools are now more accessible, fear of the unknown still hinders acceptance of AI-generated worlds.
Arthur Baum, a Director of Photography and Unreal Engine Artist, expressed his aspiration to create real-life movies capturing imperfections and method acting—elements he believes virtual environments cannot replicate. Baum stressed that storytelling's core values remain unchanged despite technological shifts.
Baum compared AI's rise to nuclearisation, warning it could become a tool for spreading misinformation. He advocated for engaging with traditional art forms beyond screens to better appreciate photography and art. This perspective underscores the importance of balancing digital innovation with traditional artistic practices.
The festival is organised by the Sharjah Government Media Bureau (SGMB) and runs until February 26. It serves as a global platform celebrating visual storytelling. Attendees can explore various aspects of photography and digital narratives during this event.
The panelists acknowledged resistance towards fully embracing digital methods despite AI's potential benefits in storytelling. They highlighted the importance of maintaining human elements in creative processes while adapting to new technologies.
