House Of Wisdom’s Ramadaniyat Celebrates Culture With 40 Activities And 8,000 Visitors

The House of Wisdom (HoW) in Sharjah recently marked the holy month of Ramadan with its annual Ramadaniyat event, captivating a crowd of 8,000 visitors through a diverse array of over 40 cultural and creative activities. These events, ranging from workshops to exhibitions and Ramadan evenings, transformed both the external and internal courtyards of HoW into lively spaces that reflect the Emirate's rich cultural heritage. Due to the overwhelming public interest, the Ramadaniyat event has been extended until 14th April, allowing even more visitors to immerse themselves in this unique cultural experience.

Among the highlights was the "Tapestry of Culture" event, which featured interactive workshops that stood out for their engaging content. One such workshop focused on Ancient Egyptian Decoupage, where participants decorated objects using coloured paper and adhesive in a creative display of craftsmanship. Another workshop, "Looming", introduced a heritage aspect to handicrafts, captivating those in attendance. Additionally, the "Wisdom Tales" event, a collaborative effort with the UAE Board on Books for Young People and the Sharjah Institute for Heritage, offered interactive sessions where visitors created narratives inspired by Emirati heritage.

The Ramadaniyat also marked the opening of the 'Chapters of Islamic Art: Carpets' exhibition, which will continue until the end of May. This exhibition highlights the significance of carpets, textiles, and weaving in the Islamic world through illuminated manuscripts and large-sized books from Dr. Richard Ettinghausen's private library. Creative workshops accompanying the exhibition allowed participants to craft miniature models of artworks using traditional tools, with their creations displayed on a mural in HoW's external courtyard.

Marwa Al Aqroubi, Executive Director of HoW, commented on the significance of these events during Ramadan: "The events during the blessed month of Ramadan were a vivid manifestation of the cultural confluence in Sharjah. The holy month, when spiritual and moral values come to the fore, saw these events emerge as a platform for reviving heritage and enhancing cultural awareness." She further highlighted that these events not only offered insights into Islamic and Arab identity but also underscored HoW's role in promoting Arab and Islamic civilisation and reinforcing Sharjah's status as a cultural and knowledge hub in the UAE and beyond.

The Ramadaniyat event at HoW not only served as a celebration of Ramadan but also as an important cultural gathering that brought together people from various backgrounds to explore and appreciate the rich tapestry of Arab and Islamic traditions. Through its successful execution and positive reception, HoW continues to solidify its position as a leading cultural institution in Sharjah.
