Hoor Al Qasimi Receives Officer Of Order Of Arts And Letters From France For Cultural Contributions

Hoor Al Qasimi, President and Director of the Sharjah Art Foundation, was honoured with the insignia of Officier de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres. The award was presented by Nicolas Niemtchinow, France's Ambassador to the UAE, at a ceremony held at The Flying Saucer in Sharjah. This recognition is awarded to individuals who have significantly contributed to the arts since 1957.

The Order of Arts and Letters is a prestigious accolade from France, acknowledging those who have actively promoted art and culture both domestically and internationally. Al Qasimi expressed her gratitude for receiving this honour from the French Embassy in the UAE. She stated that it reflects the cultural collaborations and exchanges that have influenced her work in Sharjah, the UAE, and globally.

Hoor Al Qasimi Awarded by France

Nicolas Niemtchinow remarked on Sheikha Hoor Al Qasimi's dedication to enhancing cultural ties between France and Sharjah. He highlighted her role within the Alliance Française of Sharjah as a testament to her commitment to Franco-Emirati friendship. Niemtchinow also praised the Sharjah Biennial for its prominence in contemporary art and its inclusion of French and Francophone artists.

Al Qasimi acknowledged that this recognition is not just for herself but also for those who have supported her journey. She emphasised the importance of continuing cultural dialogue through the arts. "I accept this recognition, not only for myself, but for all those who have supported, guided and inspired me throughout my journey," she said.

The event was attended by several notable figures, including Sheikh Fahim Al Qasimi, Chairman of the Government Relations Department; Sheikha Nawar Al Qassimi, Vice President of Sharjah Art Foundation; Sheikha Noora Al Mualla, Director of Learning and Research at Sharjah Art Foundation; Sheikha Rad Alqasimi, Secretary General of the International French Association in Sharjah; Audrey Leseigneur, Director of Alliance Française Sharjah; and Mona El-Mousfy, Advisor to the Sharjah Architecture Triennial.

Jean-Christophe Paris, Consul-General of France in Dubai, along with Stéphanie Salha from the French Embassy staff and Marie Lozon de Cantelmi were also present during this official award ceremony. Their presence underscored the significance of this event in strengthening cultural relations between France and the UAE.

Al Qasimi's Diverse Roles

In addition to her leadership at the Sharjah Art Foundation, Hoor Al Qasimi holds multiple influential positions. She serves as President of both the International Biennial Association and The Africa Institute in Sharjah. Additionally, she directs the Sharjah Architecture Triennial and leads Sharjah’s Global Studies University as well as being President of the Sharjah Creative Quarter.

Al Qasimi is also set to be Artistic Director for upcoming international events: the 6th Aichi Triennale in 2025 and Sydney's 25th Biennale in 2026. Her extensive involvement highlights her commitment to fostering global artistic dialogue.

This award ceremony not only celebrated Hoor Al Qasimi's achievements but also reinforced ongoing cultural collaboration between France and UAE. Her contributions continue to strengthen artistic connections across borders.
