Hili Forum Launches First Regional Edition In Brazil To Strengthen UAE-Latin America Relations

The Emirates Centre for Strategic Studies and Research (ECSSR) and the Anwar Gargash Diplomatic Academy (AGDA) have introduced the first regional Hili Dialogues. This event will serve as the international platform for the annual Abu Dhabi-based Hili Forum. The inaugural "Hili-Latin America Dialogue" is scheduled for 8th July 2025 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, focusing on "UAE-Latin America Ties: Promising Pathways."

This dialogue aims to deepen mutual understanding and explore collaboration opportunities in economic integration, green energy, technological innovation, food security, and South–South connectivity. The event will gather policymakers, academics, diplomats, and industry experts from Latin America and the UAE for a full day of high-level discussions. Dr. Sultan Mohammed Al-Nuaimi of ECSSR highlighted that this dialogue marks the start of constructive exchanges between continents.

Nickolay Mladenov from AGDA emphasised that the dialogue reflects a commitment to building strategic bridges between the UAE and Latin America. He noted that partnerships based on mutual respect and practical collaboration are crucial as global dynamics evolve. The event aims to strengthen diplomatic and economic ties while investing in a future shaped by shared opportunities.

The dialogue is expected to attract around 200 participants from 10 countries, with over 25 speakers discussing strategic themes like economic integration and trade partnerships. Discussions will cover logistics, food security, renewable energy, green transition, sustainable investment, and public-private sector partnerships.

Commitment to International Cooperation

Professor Marlos Lima from Fundação Getulio Vargas (FGV) expressed pride in hosting this initiative in Brazil. He stated that fostering open dialogue among nations is vital for navigating complex global challenges. The Hili–Latin America Dialogue underscores the importance of research, education, and policy exchange as pillars of international cooperation.

This event aligns with ECSSR and AGDA's vision to create impactful international strategic partnerships. It supports scientific collaboration with leading intellectual institutions while promoting international cooperation aligned with the UAE’s broader goals. This regional dialogue marks the beginning of a series set to occur worldwide.

The Emirates News Agency (WAM) will be an official media partner for this flagship dialogue. It highlights a growing convergence between the UAE and Latin America while reinforcing research's role in international cooperation.
