Heritage Nights Inaugurated By Sharjah Institute For Heritage To Celebrate Emirati Culture

Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Musallam, Chairman of the Sharjah Institute for Heritage, recently opened the "Heritage Nights" event at Al-Soor Square in Sharjah. This Ramadan event celebrates UAE's cultural heritage with traditional lanterns and folklore music. It aims to preserve intangible cultural heritage and runs until 23rd March, offering a rich experience with arts, crafts, cuisine, and performances reflecting Emirati life during Ramadan.

The event is inspired by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi’s vision of preserving cultural heritage. Dr. Al-Musallam highlighted that "Heritage Nights" showcases Sharjah's dedication to maintaining its cultural legacy while merging tradition with modernity. He stated, "His Highness, the Ruler of Sharjah, has taught us that heritage is not merely a tale of the past, but a living identity that evolves with each generation."

Heritage Nights Celebrates Emirati Culture in Sharjah

The event offers various activities showcasing cultural richness. The Storytelling Village features Abdulnasser Al-Tamimi and puppet theatre performances, reviving oral storytelling traditions integral to folklore. The Children's Village provides interactive spaces for young visitors to engage in heritage-based entertainment and educational activities.

Visitors can enjoy traditional games once common in Emirati daily life at the Traditional Games Corner. Culinary enthusiasts participate in Ramadan Cooking Competitions, showcasing their skills in a lively setting. The Publishers Association presents cultural publications alongside Bisat Al-Kutub (The Booksellers' Market), where rare books on cultural history are available.

A televised competition engages attendees and viewers alike, while the theatre segment features local and Arab folkloric performances celebrating artistic and musical heritage. Heritage-inspired sports competitions promote healthy competition among participants. Discussion panels bring together experts to explore heritage topics and challenges in preserving cultural identity.

The event recreates the cannon firing tradition at Al-Hisn, marking the fast-breaking moment during Ramadan. The Heritage Cuisine Corner offers authentic Emirati dishes showcasing local culinary traditions' richness. Live painting sessions add an artistic touch as artists create works inspired by Emirati culture, offering contemporary interpretations through visual arts.

Sharjah's Cultural Commitment

"Heritage Nights" serves as a dynamic space for interaction with heritage elements where storytellers, artisans, artists, and researchers narrate UAE’s story through history and authenticity. This gathering not only reinforces Sharjah’s cultural identity but also enhances its position as a global hub for heritage and civilisation.

With its diverse programme, "Heritage Nights" continues to highlight Emirati and Arab heritage depth while reinforcing Sharjah’s reputation as a leading cultural hub regionally and internationally.
