Heritage Hotels To Boost Tourism In Jeddah Historic District
In a significant move to boost the tourism sector in Jeddah, the Jeddah Historic District Program, under the auspices of the Saudi Ministry of Culture, has inked a pivotal agreement with Al Balad Development Company, a subsidiary of the Public Investment Fund (PIF), to manage and operate heritage hotels within the Jeddah Historic District. This collaboration aims to elevate the tourism experience by offering enhanced services to tourists and visitors, allowing them to immerse themselves in the rich history and culture of Jeddah.
The initiative is part of a broader effort to rejuvenate Al Balad, an area that boasts over 600 historic buildings. The restoration of these heritage hotels is being carried out with an eye towards preserving their unique architectural elements. These efforts are in line with international standards and guidelines set forth by UNESCO, which recognized the Jeddah Historic District as a World Heritage Site in 2014.

Abdulaziz bin Ibrahim Al-Issa, Director General of the Jeddah Historic District Program, expressed enthusiasm about the project, stating, "This is just the beginning of a larger cooperation aimed at providing a diverse hospitality experience." He highlighted the goal of offering an integrated experience for visitors that reflects the inherent hospitality of the region.
Jamil bin Hassan Ghaznawi, CEO of Al Balad Development Company, also shared his excitement about the agreement and the synergy between both entities. He emphasized their shared objective of transforming Al Balad into a vibrant hub for business, investment, and global tourism.
Upon completion of the restoration work, Al Balad Development Company will take over operations through its "Al Balad Hospitality" arm. The heritage hotels will encompass 34 heritage houses, promising guests an authentic lodging experience that blends tradition with modern comforts. The Destination Management Office of the Jeddah Historic District Program will work closely with Al Balad Hospitality to enhance visitor experiences by offering unique local products and traditional Saudi experiences. Guests can expect a warm welcome that pays homage to the region's deep-seated cultural traditions and commitment to heritage preservation.
This partnership marks a significant step towards revitalizing the Jeddah Historic District and enriching Saudi Arabia's tourism landscape.
