Health Ministry Intensifies Efforts To Prevent Heat Stress Among Pilgrims During Hajj 1446 AH

The Ministry of Health in Saudi Arabia is ramping up its efforts to protect pilgrims arriving in Makkah from heat stress. This initiative is part of the Vision 2030 Health Sector Transformation Program and the Pilgrim Experience Program, aiming to ensure a safe and healthy Hajj experience. The ministry's primary focus is on preventing heat-related illnesses among pilgrims.

Pilgrims are encouraged to take several precautions to avoid heat stress. They should use umbrellas, drink water regularly even if not thirsty, and wear light-coloured, lightweight clothing. Symptoms of heat stress include headache, dizziness, excessive sweating, thirst, and nausea. If these symptoms appear, pilgrims should seek shade, cool down with water, and drink plenty of fluids.

Heat Stress Prevention for Hajj Pilgrims

The health sector is well-prepared with more than 34 field health units positioned strategically across holy sites. These units are equipped to provide urgent medical care and respond quickly to cases of heat stress. This readiness enhances the safety of pilgrims during their stay.

Pilgrims are advised to avoid direct sun exposure between 10 am and 4 pm. They should also refrain from walking on hot surfaces and be cautious when engaging in strenuous activities like climbing mountains on the Day of Arafah. Such activities can increase the risk of heat stress significantly.

The Ministry has introduced a health awareness kit available in eight languages. This kit offers comprehensive health guidelines for pilgrims. Through its advanced field system and skilled medical personnel, the Ministry continues its extensive efforts to provide comprehensive health services.

The Ministry's initiatives aim to promote safety and ensure that pilgrims can perform their rituals comfortably in a healthy environment. By following these guidelines, pilgrims can enjoy a safer Hajj experience while minimizing health risks associated with heat exposure.
