Health Minister Fahad Al-Jalajel Emphasises Global Collaboration To Combat Antimicrobial Resistance

Minister of Health Fahad Al-Jalajel has highlighted Saudi Arabia's commitment to prioritising human health under the leadership of King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and HRH the Crown Prince. The Kingdom is recognised as a centre for tackling global challenges, aligning with Vision 2030. Hosting the Fourth Global High-Level Ministerial Conference on Antimicrobial Resistance in Jeddah from November 14 to 16 underscores this dedication.

During his address at the conference, Al-Jalajel stressed the importance of international collaboration in combating antimicrobial resistance, a pressing global health threat. He noted that all participating countries are aware of the urgency to implement new measures for infection prevention and control. This includes fully executing national action plans and ensuring equitable access to antibiotics.

Global Cooperation Against Antimicrobial Resistance

The minister reviewed past achievements in addressing antimicrobial resistance, such as launching a global action plan and forming a quadruple alliance with related organisations. These efforts include the United Nations Environment Program and activating the "One Health" approach to balance human, animal, and ecosystem health sustainably.

Al-Jalajel emphasised that this conference is an opportunity to strengthen global responses and move from statements to implementation. He called for immediate actions to address this crisis and protect advancements in modern medicine, particularly antibiotics that have saved countless lives.

The health minister concluded by highlighting the critical role of participants in endorsing the Jeddah declaration. This endorsement is vital for developing sustainable solutions against antimicrobial resistance. He reiterated the need for swift actions to safeguard medical progress and ensure effective antibiotic use continues.
