Hazza Bin Zayed Attends Reopening Of Al Ain Museum After Extensive Redevelopment Efforts
H.H. Sheikh Hazza bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler’s Representative in Al Ain Region, attended the reopening of Al Ain Museum. The museum underwent extensive restoration and redevelopment to preserve its cultural and archaeological significance. New facilities and exhibition halls with interactive technologies were introduced, aligning with international heritage museum standards.
The reopening event was graced by several dignitaries, including H.H. Sheikh Suroor bin Mohammed Al Nahyan and H.H. Sheikh Nahyan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council. Other notable attendees were H.H. Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan, Advisor to the UAE President, and H.H. Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairperson of Dubai Culture and Arts Authority.
During his visit, Sheikh Hazza explored various sections of the museum that highlight regional customs and traditions. Displays on agriculture, traditional fishing, and ancestral crafts were featured prominently. The archaeology and ethnography sections offer insights into ancient human settlements through artefacts like pottery and iron arrowheads from sites such as Jebel Hafeet Tombs.
The museum's redevelopment expanded its area from 1,200 to 8,000 square metres. It now boasts 10 main galleries equipped with advanced audiovisual systems. New visitor amenities include a research centre, conservation labs, educational spaces, a reading room, café, retail area, and a hall for temporary exhibitions.
Sheikh Hazza highlighted that Al Ain Museum is one of the UAE’s most important cultural landmarks as it was the first museum established in the country. He noted that its reopening aligns with President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan's vision to continue the legacy of the late Founding Father by preserving national heritage for future generations.
He praised cultural entities for their dedication to preserving historical landmarks that embody the UAE’s legacy. "It is crucial to document and safeguard our national heritage," he stated. This effort serves as a bridge between past and present generations, fostering appreciation for historical value while reinforcing national pride.
The event also saw participation from Staff Lieutenant General (retired) Sheikh Saeed bin Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Nahyan; Sheikh Zayed bin Hamad bin Hamdan Al Nahyan; Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan; and Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak, Chairman of DCT Abu Dhabi.
Sheikh Hazza toured key exhibits showcasing artefacts from ancient settlements dating back thousands of years. These include discoveries like daggers unearthed at significant sites such as Al Qattara Oasis.
The comprehensive redevelopment reflects a commitment to maintaining cultural identity while integrating modern technology in museum displays. This approach ensures that visitors can engage with history in an interactive manner while appreciating the rich heritage of the region.
