Hayat Programme By MoHAP Enhances Community Awareness Of Organ Donation In The UAE

The Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) has initiated Ramadan Majlises across Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Qaiwain, Ras Al Khaimah, and Fujairah. These gatherings aim to raise awareness about the National Programme for Organ and Tissue Donation and Transplantation, known as "Hayat." The initiative seeks to educate the public on the significance of organ donation in offering patients hope for recovery.

Dr. Amin Hussain Al Amiri, Assistant Under-Secretary for the Health Regulation Sector, emphasised that these sessions are part of MoHAP’s ongoing efforts to boost public understanding of organ donation's life-changing impact. He noted that this aligns with the "Year of the Community" values, promoting humanitarian principles and unity during Ramadan.

MoHAP's Hayat Programme Promotes Organ Donation

Dr. Ali Abdulkarim Al Obaidli, Chairman of the National Committee for Organ and Tissue Donation and Transplantation, highlighted that "Hayat" is among the fastest-growing organ donation programmes globally. This growth is driven by comprehensive awareness campaigns and continuous engagement with society. Regular meetings across all emirates have increased registrations significantly.

Mohammed Abdullah Al Zarooni, Director of MoHAP’s Representative Office in Sharjah, stressed that "Hayat" is a key humanitarian initiative. It has garnered strong community engagement and positive public response. Similarly, Hamad Taryam Al Shamsi from Ajman confirmed active support through awareness campaigns and partnerships with societal groups.

The programme's success is evident in its numbers: 32,704 individuals registered in "Hayat," 331 actual donors in the UAE, 1,216 transplanted organs, and 1,167 patients having undergone transplants by 2024. Dr. Al Amiri stated these figures reflect the UAE's commitment to healthcare excellence.

The Cabinet’s approval of executive regulations for organ donation underscores the government’s dedication to enhancing public health. Dr. Al Amiri noted this reflects a commitment to providing advanced treatment solutions meeting high regulatory standards.

Mohammed Abdullah Al Shehhi from Ras Al Khaimah mentioned promotional campaigns targeting various sectors have boosted registrations.

Dr. Mohammed Abdullah from Fujairah highlighted efforts in fostering cooperation across governmental and private sectors to enhance awareness about "Hayat." This contributes significantly to advancing the UAE’s healthcare sector.
