Haramain High Speed Railway Provides Over 1.6 Million Seats For Ramadan Travel
The Haramain High Speed Railway is crucial for travel between Makkah and Madinah, especially during Ramadan. It operates over 3,400 trips with more than 1.6 million seats to accommodate Umrah performers and visitors. This service helps reduce road congestion and meets the increasing demand for travel between these holy cities and Jeddah.
Saudi Arabia Railways (SAR), along with the operating company, has crafted a detailed plan to handle the increased traffic during Ramadan. The railway line features five stations in Makkah, Madinah, and Jeddah. The King Abdulaziz Airport station is notable as it is the world's largest airport-linked railway station, covering over 105,000 square meters.

The Haramain High Speed Railway ranks among the fastest electric railways globally, reaching speeds of 300 km/h. It uses advanced signaling and communication systems to ensure safe and efficient travel. Inaugurated in 2018, this major Middle Eastern project aims to provide reliable transportation for pilgrims, Umrah performers, and other travelers.
Each train on this line consists of 13 cars with a total of 417 seats. These include both business and economy class cabins along with a cafeteria. Business class passengers enjoy premium hospitality services while food carts serve those in economy class. Entertainment screens and accessibility features are available for passengers with special needs.
The stations offer various services such as police and fire stations, a health center, a mosque, retail outlets, restaurants, cafes, a pharmacy, a business class lounge, parking facilities, car rentals, shipping services, ticketing options, hotel reservations, telecommunications services, banking facilities, a supermarket, public transportation options like taxis and shuttle buses to the Grand Mosque.
The railway facilitates travel between Makkah and Madinah in about two hours and 20 minutes. This efficiency is achieved through its fleet of 35 electric trains designed to streamline passenger movement across destinations. The King Abdulaziz Airport station further eases airport road congestion by providing direct rail access.
This high-speed railway stands as a cornerstone of Saudi Arabia's expanding railway network. It plays an essential role in enhancing connectivity within the region while offering modern amenities for travelers. With its comprehensive services and rapid transit capabilities, it significantly contributes to easing travel demands during peak periods like Ramadan.
