Hapag-Lloyd Adds JDX Shipping Service To Boost Trade At Jeddah Islamic Port
The Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani) has recently unveiled a significant development in maritime logistics by introducing a new shipping service, the JDX, at Jeddah Islamic Port. This service, provided by the German international shipping giant Hapag-Lloyd, establishes a direct maritime corridor linking the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia with key ports in Africa, specifically Tangier in Morocco and Damietta in Egypt. This initiative is set to bolster trade flows and enhance the supply-chain dynamics between Saudi ports and their global counterparts.
This strategic move is in line with Mawani's ambitious agenda to position the Kingdom as a pivotal logistics hub that connects three continents. It aims to elevate the country's profile on the global stage, particularly within the logistics and transportation sectors. The introduction of the JDX service is a testament to Saudi Arabia's ongoing efforts to improve its standing in international rankings and to fulfill the objectives outlined in the National Transport and Logistics Strategy (NTLS).

The JDX service promises regular weekly voyages, boasting a capacity of up to 4,253 20-foot equivalent units (TEUs). This enhancement in service offerings is expected to leverage the advanced infrastructure of Jeddah Islamic Port, which has been recognized with several prestigious international awards. Among these accolades are the 'Advanced Infrastructure' award at the 'Landmarks in Logistics Summit 2023', the 'Port of the Year' award at the 'Transport and Logistics Awards' ceremony in the United Arab Emirates, and the 'Best Port' award in 2022 at the Global Green Shipping Summit in Rotterdam.
Jeddah Islamic Port's distinguished infrastructure and its array of shipping services have positioned it as a leader in maritime logistics. The port's ability to accommodate a wide range of shipping needs and its commitment to excellence have been instrumental in securing these international recognitions. The introduction of the JDX service by Hapag-Lloyd further underscores the port's strategic importance in facilitating global trade and enhancing logistic efficiencies.
The collaboration between Mawani and Hapag-Lloyd through the JDX service is expected to significantly contribute to the Kingdom's trade movement with Africa and beyond. It reflects Saudi Arabia's proactive approach to expanding its logistics capabilities and reinforcing its role as a major player in international trade. This development not only supports the Kingdom's economic goals but also promotes greater connectivity and cooperation between Saudi Arabia and other nations across continents.
