Hanwha And EDGE Sign MoU To Enhance Strategic Defence Cooperation In Advanced Technologies

EDGE, a prominent advanced technology and defence group, has partnered with Hanwha Aerospace from South Korea. They have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to explore strategic cooperation in areas like air and missile defence, precision strike, unmanned systems, and AI in defence. This collaboration aims to leverage Hanwha’s technological expertise alongside EDGE’s growing industrial capabilities.

The agreement outlines potential cooperative programmes that could enhance the UAE's defence architecture. Discussions focus on advanced air-defence technologies that might lead to integrated, multi-layered systems tailored for the UAE's future requirements. There is also consideration for localised sustainment models, production, and training facilities, including establishing dedicated maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) capacity within the UAE.

Hanwha and EDGE Sign Defence Cooperation MoU

Both companies are set to evaluate opportunities in defence AI. They will examine how operational data can be combined with Hanwha’s AI modelling expertise for future capability development. Additionally, they will review concepts in unmanned ground systems (UGV) and identify potential cooperation areas in shipbuilding and maritime MRO. This includes technologies supporting vessel design, maintenance, and lifecycle sustainment.

Khaled Al Zaabi of EDGE highlighted the shared ambition between the two companies. He stated: "This understanding reflects a shared ambition to advance the next generation of defence capabilities. Hanwha’s strengths across key domains, combined with our growing industrial base, create momentum for systems that strengthen national resilience and expand the UAE’s role as a leader in advanced technology. We see real potential to shape programmes that deliver lasting value for both nations."

Sung Il from Hanwha Middle East and Africa expressed optimism about this partnership. He said: "Through this MoU, Hanwha aims to open a pathway for meaningful dialogue and collaboration with EDGE in areas that are important to both countries. We look forward to evaluating opportunities that could contribute to the UAE’s defense resilience and create long-term industrial value."

This collaboration signifies a significant step towards enhancing defence capabilities through strategic partnerships. By combining their respective strengths, EDGE and Hanwha aim to develop innovative solutions that bolster national security while fostering industrial growth in both nations.
