Hamdan Bin Zayed Attends The 21st Liwa Date Festival To Support Emirati Heritage And Agriculture

H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler's Representative in Al Dhafra Region and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD), recently attended the 21st Liwa Date Festival. This event, organised by the Abu Dhabi Heritage Authority, is taking place in Al Dhafra Region until 27 July 2025. The festival is held under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President and Deputy Prime Minister.

The festival underscores the UAE leadership's dedication to preserving national heritage and supporting related sectors. H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed emphasised the ongoing support from President H.H. Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan for initiatives that protect Emirati culture and promote agricultural sustainability. He praised the festival for highlighting the cultural and agricultural importance of palm trees as symbols of national identity.

H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed noted the festival's role in empowering local communities, supporting farmers, and encouraging palm tree cultivation as a cornerstone of food security and a vital part of UAE heritage. He commended the involvement of government and private entities, producers, manufacturers, and traditional craftswomen in promoting Emirati traditions and palm-related products.

During his visit, H.H. toured various festival pavilions, reviewed entries in competitions, and met with judging committees for date and fruit contests. He also explored sections showcasing heritage crafts, palm saplings, agricultural tools, a fresh dates market, a traditional souq, and displays from both government and private sector organisations.

Accompanying H.H. Sheikh Hamdan during his visit were several notable figures including Faris Khalaf Al Mazrouei, Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Heritage Authority; Nasser Mohammed Al Mansouri, Undersecretary of the Ruler’s Representative Court in Al Dhafra Region; Abdullah Mubarak Al Muhairi, Acting Director General of the Authority; Obaid Khalfan Al Mazrouei, Executive Director of the Festivals and Events Sector at the authority; along with other officials.

The Liwa Date Festival serves as a platform to showcase Emirati culture while supporting agricultural sustainability efforts. It highlights how palm trees are integral to both food security and cultural identity within the UAE. The active participation from various sectors demonstrates a collective effort to preserve these traditions for future generations.
