Hamdan Bin Zayed Reaffirms UAE's Commitment To Supporting Refugees Worldwide Through Humanitarian Initiatives

H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler's Representative in Al Dhafra Region and Chairman of the Emirates Red Crescent, has reiterated the UAE's dedication to supporting refugees globally. Under President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan's leadership, the UAE aims to highlight refugee issues and enhance their resilience during crises.

Sheikh Hamdan emphasised the UAE's significant role in easing refugee hardships and addressing displacement causes through development and humanitarian initiatives. These efforts are guided by President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Vice President Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

UAE's Commitment to Refugees by Hamdan bin Zayed

On World Refugee Day, observed on 20th June, Sheikh Hamdan highlighted the UAE's early recognition of instability, underdevelopment, and conflict as factors increasing displacement. The nation allocates a substantial part of its income to aid less developed areas, promoting peace through tolerance and coexistence.

The UAE is committed to safeguarding refugees' dignity and alleviating their suffering. Sheikh Hamdan urged the global community to intensify efforts to address the refugee crisis and improve living conditions for those affected.

He praised H.H. Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak for her initiatives, notably the Fund for Refugee Women. This fund empowers female refugees economically, socially, and psychologically, transforming programmes targeting women in developing communities.

The UAE has also launched a distance learning initiative and the UAE Digital School in several host countries. These initiatives ensure refugee children have access to education using flexible tools that overcome displacement challenges, aligning with Sustainable Development Goal 4.

Comprehensive Support for Refugees

The UAE’s efforts are rooted in values aimed at helping refugees overcome hardship and regain productivity while supporting host communities. This includes launching projects addressing healthcare, education, livelihood, and basic service needs for refugees.

Sheikh Hamdan highlighted the Emirates Red Crescent's advocacy for refugees. The organisation has established numerous camps worldwide, consistently delivering quality services despite growing displacement challenges.

International Collaboration

He commended the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) for assisting millions of displaced individuals globally. He appreciated the partnership between UNHCR and Emirates Red Crescent in preventing worsening humanitarian conditions.

The Red Crescent prioritises strengthening ties with international humanitarian organisations. It seeks to expand collaboration and share expertise continually to enhance support for affected populations.
