Hamdan Bin Zayed Reviews Strategy Of Abu Dhabi Heritage Authority And Plans For Liwa Dates Festival 2025
H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler's Representative in Al Dhafra Region, recently welcomed a delegation from the Abu Dhabi Heritage Authority at Al Seef Palace. The delegation was led by Chairman Faris Khalaf Al Mazrouei. This meeting underscored the leadership's commitment to preserving heritage and enhancing its role in society.
The strategic framework of the Abu Dhabi Heritage Authority was a focal point of discussion. It includes over 62 projects and 231 activities aimed at promoting national identity through heritage. The strategy seeks to nurture talent in heritage and poetry, support traditional crafts, and boost Emirati heritage's global presence.
Sheikh Hamdan emphasised that protecting authentic Emirati heritage is both a national and societal duty. He stated this responsibility aligns with the UAE leadership's vision and deep-rooted identity. "Emirati heritage will remain a vital and inspiring presence in the lives of the country's youth," he affirmed.
This dedication is driven by directives from President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, who views Emirati heritage as essential to national identity and future inspiration. Sheikh Hamdan praised the Authority's efforts, noting their alignment with community aspirations and preservation of collective memory.
Sheikh Hamdan urged expanding activities and improving communication tools to strengthen the UAE’s cultural presence locally and globally. He reviewed festival plans for Al Dhafra Region, which attract over 450,000 visitors annually. A key event is the Liwa Dates Festival, drawing more than 116,000 attendees with a budget exceeding AED14 million.
The festival supports farmers and productive farms while boosting economic and tourism activities in the region. It also highlights the palm tree as a symbol of UAE’s rich heritage. The event features 23 competitions, including those for dates and summer fruits, with prize money over AED8 million.
Community Engagement
The festival includes areas for participating entities, traditional markets, productive families, and heritage crafts. This setup enhances community involvement and encourages future generations to uphold traditional customs and values. Sheikh Hamdan commended these initiatives for aligning with community goals.
