Hamdan Bin Zayed Chairs Emirates Red Crescent Board Meeting On Humanitarian Efforts And Sustainability

H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler's Representative in the Al Dhafra Region and Chairman of the Emirates Red Crescent (ERC), highlighted the organisation's role in promoting sustainability. He noted that the ERC's initiatives reflect the UAE's commitment to humanitarian values under President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan's leadership.

Sheikh Hamdan emphasised that the UAE President’s efforts to foster solidarity through the ERC have elevated its status among global humanitarian organisations. Since early this year, the ERC has been implementing strategies aligned with the Year of Sustainability, aiming to enhance the UAE’s humanitarian and developmental influence.

The Board of Directors was briefed on several reports showcasing the ERC’s accomplishments since its inception. These include 562,950 development projects across 152 countries: 40 in Asia, 50 in Africa, 39 in Europe, 18 in the Americas, and 6 in Oceania. The board also reviewed local initiatives totalling AED110,696,919, benefiting 1.3 million people nationwide.

During a meeting at Al Nakheel Palace, Sheikh Hamdan conveyed appreciation from the leadership for ERC’s significant contributions to humanitarian and developmental fields. He acknowledged their efforts in providing relief and sheltering displaced individuals in conflict zones like Gaza and Lebanon.

Sheikh Hamdan addressed current humanitarian challenges requiring new approaches due to global events. He stressed that ERC is actively monitoring international changes and adapting through effective plans to maintain its leading humanitarian position.

The Board received a report on recent relief campaigns, including "UAE stands with Lebanon," which gathered 1,100 tonnes of aid and AED93.1 million in financial support. Tens of thousands of volunteers participated in these activities.

Support for Affected Regions

A detailed response programme for Syrians affected by last year's earthquake was presented, costing AED288.9 million and aiding 6.9 million people. Additionally, AED180.6 million has supported over 9 million Palestinians in Gaza since October last year.

The ERC continues to address increasing demands for humanitarian work globally through strategic planning and initiatives that reinforce its prominent role on the international stage.
