Hamdan Bin Zayed Chairs Environment Agency Meeting To Review Strategic Projects For 2025
H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Ruler's Representative in the Al Dhafra Region and Chairman of the Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD), has commended EAD's 2024 efforts and reviewed its 2025 strategic projects. These initiatives aim to boost community health and life quality in Abu Dhabi. The agency's work aligns with President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan's declaration of 2025 as the Year of Community.
The EAD meeting, held at Al Nakheel Palace, included notable attendees such as Dr Amna bint Abdullah Al Dahak, UAE Minister of Climate Change and Environment, and Mohammed Ahmed Al Bowardi, Vice Chairman of EAD's Board. Other key figures present were Mohamed Ali Al Shorafa, Staff Major General Pilot Faris Khalaf Al Mazrouei, Razan Khalifa Al Mubarak, Musabih Al Kaabi, Nasser Mohammed Al Mansouri, and Dr Shaikha Salem Al Dhaheri.
During the meeting, H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan was briefed on the EAD Strategy 2026-2030. This strategy aims to align with Abu Dhabi’s strategic vision by focusing on climate change mitigation, sustainable natural resource management, and establishing Abu Dhabi as a global environmental data hub. These initiatives are vital for ensuring a resilient environment capable of addressing future challenges.
EAD highlighted its mangrove planting and coral reef restoration programmes. They also discussed using nanobubble technology to enhance seawater quality and improve responses to marine pollution incidents. Additionally, an odour monitoring network is being established to identify negative sources and implement corrective measures.
The agency emphasised its role in promoting sustainability among youth to ensure ongoing biodiversity protection efforts. This includes improving air and water quality and enhancing natural resource management while raising environmental awareness for future generations. Such efforts reinforce EAD’s status as a leading environmental regulatory body in the Middle East.
EAD showcased its environmental awareness initiatives aimed at community engagement. The Connect with Nature programme has attracted 2.5 million young participants. The Sustainable Schools Initiative has involved over 560 schools since its inception in Abu Dhabi, fostering a more sustainable future by empowering young people as environmental stewards.
The strategic roadmap prioritises mitigating climate change risks while ensuring sustainable management of natural resources. It also aims to position Abu Dhabi as a global hub for environmental knowledge. These efforts are crucial for solidifying Abu Dhabi’s position as a prosperous environment capable of driving impactful global environmental action.
The meeting underscored the importance of harmonising development with environmental conservation to maintain a vibrant natural environment in Abu Dhabi. By aligning these initiatives with broader community goals, EAD continues to lead change towards sustainability while enhancing life quality across the emirate.
