Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation Reveals Winners Of The 2025 Medical Awards For Healthcare Excellence
The Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation for Medical and Educational Sciences has revealed the winners of the 2025 Medical Awards. Ten institutions, specialists, and researchers were recognised across various regional and local categories. The awards highlight significant contributions to the medical field.
Dr. Khalifa Al Suwaidi, Executive Director of the Foundation, expressed satisfaction with the outcomes. "We are pleased that the outcomes of the Medical Awards reflect continuous growth in the distinguished efforts to advance services in the medical sector. At the Foundation, we remain committed to highlighting best practices in the health sector through outstanding research and achievements. This year’s cycle included pioneering studies and accomplishments that will represent a valuable contribution to the healthcare field."

The Arab Award in Genetics was awarded to Prof. Majed bin Abdullah Al Fadhel from King Saud bin Abdulaziz University for Health Sciences. His work at King Abdulaziz Medical City in Riyadh and King Abdullah International Medical Research Centre (KAIMRC) was acknowledged under the Arab World Awards category.
Another notable award was given for research titled "Long-read sequencing enhances the discovery of pathogenic and novel variants in patients with rare diseases." This study involved a team from Dubai Health Genomic Medicine Center, Mohammed Bin Rashid University of Medicine & Health Science, and Dubai Police's Genome Centre.
The Innovation in Healthcare Award recognised two significant programmes. Al Jalila Children’s Hospital – Dubai Health received an award for their initiative "Not Even One Day: A Radical Transformation Journey in Access to Autism Services." Additionally, Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi was honoured for its comprehensive Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) programme for Parkinson’s disease treatment.
This DBS programme has completed over 100 AI-enabled smart implants with advanced brain-sensing technologies that exceed global standards. These innovations mark substantial progress in healthcare services within the UAE.
Local Achievements in Healthcare
Within UAE awards, Dr. Arif Abdulla Alnooryani from Al Qassimi Hospital and Dr Wadeia Muhammad Sharif from Dubai Health Authority were honoured as Distinguished Personalities in Healthcare. Their contributions have significantly impacted local healthcare advancements.
The Best Research in Healthcare Award went to three studies. One study focused on physical activity as a preventive measure against eye diseases, conducted by Gulf Medical University and Johns Hopkins University researchers.
Impactful Clinical Research
A study titled "Impact of multicomponent clinical interventions, including optimal medication use and lifestyle improvement, on patients with type 2 diabetes" also received recognition. This research involved The Life Corner Pharmacies – PureHealth and Seha Clinics – PureHealth teams.
Another awarded study explored hemostasis techniques in neurosurgery through retrospective analysis of surgical videos. This research was conducted by a team from University College London.
The honouring ceremony is scheduled for 29th January at Etihad Museum under Sheikh Rashid bin Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum's patronage. Dr. Khalifa Al Suwaidi extended congratulations to all winners and appreciation to those involved in managing submissions.
