Hamdan Bin Mohammed Visits Al Serkal Avenue To Highlight Its Contribution To Dubai’s Creative Ecosystem
H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Crown Prince of Dubai, recently visited Alserkal Avenue in Al Quoz. During his visit, he explored cultural institutions that play a significant role in enhancing the nation's cultural heritage and key sectors. He emphasised the district's impact on Dubai's cultural and creative ecosystem, aligning with the Dubai Social Agenda 33.
Sheikh Hamdan praised Alserkal Avenue for its contribution to making Dubai a global hub for arts and culture. He acknowledged its role as a leading destination for creative industries. The district has become a vital platform where talent converges, ideas are born, and innovation flourishes.
During his tour, Sheikh Hamdan visited Concrete, a 1,250-square-metre space designed for cultural events. This venue was the first in Dubai to be shortlisted for the Aga Khan Award for Architecture in 2017. Its flexible design reflects the harmony among diverse cultural influences within the community.
The Fiker Institute was another stop on Sheikh Hamdan's itinerary. This interdisciplinary think-tank encourages dialogue on global governance, foreign policy, and culture. At the Institute’s library, he explored over 15,000 curated titles available in both Arabic and English.
Sheikh Hamdan also visited Cinema Akil, an independent platform established in 2014 to showcase global films to UAE audiences. Since opening its permanent location in Al Quoz, it has become the GCC’s first arthouse cinema, highlighting filmmakers from various eras and genres.
The tour concluded at The Third Line gallery, founded in 2005 to support contemporary artists from the region. The gallery hosts exhibitions and artist talks while publishing art books to provide a platform for both established and emerging talent.
Accompanying H.H. Sheikh Hamdan during his visit were Abdulla Mohammed Al Basti, Secretary-General of The Executive Council of Dubai; and Ahmad bin Eisa Alserkal, Chairman of Alserkal Group.
