Hamdan Bin Mohamed Bin Zayed Witnesses Agreement For Launch Of Electric Air Taxi Flights In Abu Dhabi

Archer Aviation Inc. has taken a significant step towards launching commercial air taxi services in Abu Dhabi. This move was marked by the signing of a multi-party cooperation agreement, witnessed by H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Chairman of the Presidential Court for Special Affairs. The agreement aims to foster collaboration among UAE stakeholders to prepare for the first commercial air taxi flight.

The initiative seeks to establish the first manufacturer of vertical electric vehicles in the Middle East and North Africa region. This effort involves collaboration with several key entities, including the Abu Dhabi Investment Office (ADIO), Abu Dhabi Airports (AD Airports), Falcon Aviation Services, Etihad Aviation Training, and others. These partnerships are crucial for accelerating air taxi commercialisation in Abu Dhabi.

Badr Al-Olama, Director-General of ADIO, expressed satisfaction with the collaboration. He stated, "We are pleased to see leading members of Abu Dhabi’s aviation sector collaborating with Archer to support the launch of air taxis in the emirate." This partnership is a major milestone in advancing smart mobility solutions and solidifying Abu Dhabi's position as a leader in autonomous vehicles.

Saif Mohammed Al Suwaidi, Director-General of the GCAA, emphasised their commitment to safely launching electric air taxis in the UAE. He noted that today's consortium announcement highlights the importance of collaboration among the country's top aviation entities to host Archer's Midnight aircraft next year.

Captain Paolo La Cava, CEO of Etihad Aviation Training, highlighted Abu Dhabi's leadership in aviation innovation. He said they look forward to working with Archer to train pilots for electric air taxis, aiming to transport passengers from Zayed International Airport soon.

Future Prospects and Regulatory Framework

Nikhil Goel, Chief Commercial Officer of Archer Aviation, remarked on the significance of these partnerships for Archer's future in the UAE. He stated that comprehensive support from partners and Abu Dhabi's forward-thinking approach create an ideal environment for launching Midnight.

The GCAA is actively working with Archer to establish a regulatory framework necessary for certifying Archer’s Midnight aircraft. A week-long workshop at Archer’s headquarters and flight test facility is planned for November 2024 to advance this process.

This collaborative effort marks a pivotal moment in introducing advanced air mobility solutions in Abu Dhabi. The combined expertise and resources aim to bring innovative transportation options to fruition while ensuring safety and regulatory compliance.
