HALO Space Sets Stage For Groundbreaking Space Tourism Test Flight In Saudi Arabia

In an ambitious move that positions HALO Space at the forefront of near space tourism, the company has disclosed its plans for a pivotal test flight in Saudi Arabia this June. This undertaking, which is subject to the approval of the Communications, Space and Technology Commission (CST), represents a significant milestone not only for HALO Space but also for the burgeoning industry.

The test will mark the first instance of simultaneous testing of all technologies behind HALO Space's zero-emission flight, setting it apart from other contenders in the field. The spotlight of this test will be the launch of HALO's second full-scale prototype capsule, reaching an altitude of 32 kilometers above Earth, pushing forward its venture into stratospheric commercial flights.

Carlos Mira, CEO of HALO Space, emphasized the company's commitment to safety and its vision to democratize space travel, "As the most advanced near space company in the sector in terms of technical development, safety is our top priority, which is why we've consistently tested each system that makes up our flight program. We are on a mission to make space travel more safe, accessible, and affordable. This test will rigorously validate the integrated operation of all critical systems." HALO Space aims to launch its commercial flight services in 2026, with ticket prices set at $164,000—a figure significantly more affordable than existing space travel options. Their ambitious goal is to enable 10,000 individuals to experience the Overview Effect within this decade.

The Overview Effect, described by Mira as an almost spiritual experience, refers to the profound transformation felt when viewing Earth from space. HALO Space's flight, powered by a helium balloon, promises a smooth and gradual ascent, making it accessible to a wide audience without the need for specialized training. With flight durations of 4-6 hours, including 1-2 hours at peak altitude, passengers will have ample opportunity to enjoy panoramic views of Earth.

Moreover, HALO Space is not only focused on technological advancements but also on making space travel financially accessible. Efforts are underway to establish a program that lowers financial barriers, enabling more people to embark on this extraordinary journey. HALO's flight program benefits from the expertise of engineers with over three decades of experience in the field. The company is collaborating with aeronautical and space authorities in the US, Australia, Saudi Arabia, and Spain to establish year-round bases for conducting safe near-space stratospheric flights in locations selected for their favorable conditions. HALO sets a high safety standard, aiming for a catastrophic failure probability of less than 1 in 100 million, achieved through stringent safety measures and system redundancies.

As the countdown to the test flight continues, the excitement within HALO Space and the space tourism industry is palpable.
