Hail University Researchers Unveil Smart Application To Improve Crowd Management At Holy Sites
Three researchers from Hail University have introduced a smart application designed to predict crowding at holy sites. This initiative, developed with various partners, aims to improve crowd management during the Hajj and Umrah seasons. The project was showcased at the 25th Scientific Forum for Hajj, Umrah, and Visit Research in Madinah, organised by Umm Al-Qura University.
The application integrates real-time navigation, practical guidance, and predictive analysis technologies into a single digital platform. It features an interactive map with colour-coded population density levels and a proactive sensor system. This setup offers users practical alternatives to alleviate congestion and enhance movement experiences at holy sites.

Mishaal Al-Shammari, one of the researchers, explained that the project was developed alongside Dr. Gharbi Al-Shammari and Shawq Al-Shammari. The application serves as a technical framework supporting crowd management efforts by providing accurate data and analytical insights. These insights empower decision-makers to intervene effectively and improve management efficiency.
The project explores AI and predictive analytics within the Hajj and Umrah service sector to enhance organisational processes. It aims to provide technical solutions aligned with Saudi Vision 2030 goals for this sector. Additionally, it seeks to develop communication mechanisms that cater to pilgrims' cultural and linguistic diversity.
The smart application ensures accurate information reaches all users through its interactive features. It aims to bolster existing regulatory strategies by offering precise data for better decision-making. Mishaal Al-Shammari noted that this enhanced data supports more effective interventions in crowd management.
In a statement to the Saudi Press Agency, Mishaal Al-Shammari highlighted the application's role in integrating real-time navigation with predictive analysis technologies. This integration provides a comprehensive digital platform for managing crowds efficiently during peak pilgrimage seasons.
This innovative approach not only addresses current challenges but also aligns with broader national objectives under Saudi Vision 2030. By leveraging advanced technologies, the project aims to improve overall experiences for pilgrims while ensuring safety and efficiency at holy sites.
