Hafeet Rail Project Marks New Era In UAE-Oman Economic Partnership

In a significant development for regional connectivity and economic collaboration, the UAE-Oman Business Forum, held in Abu Dhabi, has marked a new chapter in the partnership between the United Arab Emirates and Oman. Suhail bin Mohammed Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, highlighted the forum's role in strengthening bilateral ties through the announcement of pivotal contracts aimed at bolstering investment and trade exchange.

During the event, Al Mazrouei shared insights with the Emirates News Agency (WAM), revealing that several agreements were inked to enhance critical sectors such as industry, green energy, and hydrogen production. These agreements are poised to unlock substantial investment opportunities, promising mutual economic benefits for both nations.

New Era for UAE-Oman Trade

A standout announcement from the forum was the awarding of the tender for the Hafeet Rail project, with work set to commence imminently. This rail link is poised to revolutionise transportation between the UAE and Oman by providing a direct connection from the port of Sohar to Abu Dhabi. The project aligns with the broader Gulf Railway vision, aiming to facilitate faster, more efficient travel across the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region, thereby reducing road traffic and the associated carbon footprint.

Al Mazrouei underscored the project's emphasis on efficiency and affordability, noting its dual capacity for freight and passenger transport. With an estimated value of around $3 billion, there is a concerted effort to potentially lower the final cost further. The project board is also committed to setting a new benchmark for rapid implementation.

The Hafeet Rail project represents a significant stride towards enhanced GCC connectivity, promising to streamline travel distances and offer a sustainable alternative to traditional transportation methods. This initiative not only underscores the growing economic collaboration between the UAE and Oman but also reflects a shared commitment to fostering green energy solutions and sustainable development across the region.
