Guru Nanak Darbar Gurudwara Hosts Farewell Event For India Ambassador Sunjay Sudhir In Dubai
The Guru Nanak Darbar Gurudwara in Dubai bid a heartfelt farewell to His Excellency Sunjay Sudhir, Ambassador of India to the UAE, and Mrs. Vandana Sudhir on Monday, September 15, 2025.
The event, hosted under the leadership of Dr. Surender Singh Kandhari, Chairman and Founder of the Guru Nanak Darbar Gurudwara and the Al Dobowi Group, brought together community members, dignitaries, and well-wishers to honour the Ambassador's service and significant role in strengthening India-UAE ties.

In an interview with OneArabia.me at the event, Ambassador Sudhir reflected on the profound connection he felt with the Sikh place of worship during his tenure in the Emirates. "It is a very special feeling to come to this Gurudwara. Whenever I am here, I feel that this institution is truly at the service of the community — be it during normal times or difficult phases like the COVID-19 pandemic," he shared.
The Ambassador highlighted the inclusive spirit of the Gurudwara, noting how people from diverse communities and walks of life come together under its roof. "This spirit of openness and warmth is what makes the Gurudwara so unique. It has stood for years as a hub of peace, where visitors can listen to soulful Shabads, partake in the Langar, and find moments of tranquility. That in itself is a remarkable service to the people," he remarked.

Reflecting on the vision and efforts behind the Gurudwara's establishment and ongoing services, Ambassador Sudhir praised its dedication to high standards — whether in hygiene, technology adoption, hospitality, or the spiritual ambience it nurtures. "From the preparation of Langar to the devotional music, every detail has been thoughtfully maintained. This makes the Gurudwara not only a place of worship but also a symbol of service, harmony, and excellence," he added.
In his comments, the Ambassador also placed the Gurudwara within the broader framework of India and the UAE's values of tolerance and coexistence. He drew parallels with other institutions such as the BAPS Hindu Mandir in Abu Dhabi and many interfaith centers that symbolise the shared ethos of peace, harmony, and mutual respect between the two nations. "These places of worship represent the common values of India and the UAE, both of which stand as living examples of unity in diversity," he said.

Speaking of his final days in office, Ambassador Sudhir acknowledged the tight schedule that accompanies his role, including high-level engagements, investment dialogues, and education initiatives. Despite such commitments, he emphasised the importance of attending this farewell, which gave him the chance to personally thank members of the Indian community.
"This occasion is meaningful because it allows me to reconnect and say goodbye to those I worked closely with — not only in serving the Indian diaspora but also in deepening India-UAE relations," he concluded with gratitude.
The farewell event at the Guru Nanak Darbar was marked by warmth, community spirit, and an atmosphere of reverence, encapsulating the enduring role of the Gurudwara as a beacon of unity, service, and shared cultural values in Dubai.
