Inaugural Gulf Youth Games In UAE Conclude With Celebrations Of Unity And Talent

H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Second Deputy Ruler of Dubai and President of both the UAE National Olympic Committee and the Gulf Youth Games, has affirmed the UAE's dedication to nurturing the sports sector in the Gulf region. This commitment comes under the leadership of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and the guidance of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai. The remarks were made following the successful conclusion of the inaugural Gulf Youth Games, a significant event that took place from 16th April to 2nd May.

The Gulf Youth Games saw participation from approximately 3,500 male and female athletes who competed in 24 different sports across 41 events. The event, which spanned across five emirates including Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, and Fujairah, also welcomed the involvement of 300 volunteers and was covered by 100 media personnel. Sheikh Ahmed highlighted the Games as a promising platform for young athletes to showcase their talents and contribute to the development of sports and the Olympic Movement in the region.

Gulf Youth Games End on High Note

Commending the National Olympic Committees (NOCs) in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) for their support, Sheikh Ahmed expressed pride in the unity and sportsmanship displayed during the Games. He acknowledged the efforts of teams and volunteers that facilitated the smooth running of events across various venues. The outstanding performance of Gulf athletes was praised, with their achievements seen as a testament to their readiness and the event's success in meeting its primary objectives.

The UAE emerged as a leading contender in the Games, topping the medal count with a total of 296 medals, including 96 gold, 103 silver, and 97 bronze medals. Saudi Arabia followed with 149 medals, while Kuwait secured third place with 126 medals. Qatar, Bahrain, and Oman also showed commendable performances, securing fourth to sixth places respectively.

The sports competitions encompassed a wide range of activities from football to e-sports, demonstrating the diverse athletic talent present in the Gulf region. Sheikh Ahmed's congratulations to all winners underscored his hope for these achievements to significantly advance Gulf sports. He also reiterated the UAE's capability in organizing major events, reinforcing its status as a premier sports destination with top-notch facilities and infrastructure.

The success of this inaugural edition underlines not only the athletic prowess within the Gulf but also highlights a unified spirit among its youth. With its theme "Our Gulf is One... Our Youth are Promising", the event has set a solid foundation for future sporting events in the region.
