Gulf Health Council Launches 'Wazenha' Campaign To Combat Obesity And Promote Nutrition For Youth

The Gulf Health Council has introduced an initiative called 'Wazenha' to address obesity concerns among children and adolescents up to 19 years old. This campaign also targets parents and the broader Gulf community. It aims to highlight obesity risks, stress the importance of good nutrition, and boost self-confidence and body positivity in young people.

Through engaging content, educational resources, and social media posts, the campaign encourages healthier eating habits among youth and families. A significant aspect is an interactive scientific quiz with 12 questions. This quiz evaluates teenagers' and parents' understanding of obesity, nutrition, and body image.

Gulf Health Council's Campaign on Youth Nutrition

The campaign underscores the health, physical, and social dangers linked to obesity. It emphasizes balanced nutrition and regular exercise as preventive measures. Additionally, it promotes self-acceptance and positive body perception, moving away from unrealistic beauty standards.

The quiz is based on Social Cognitive Theory, considering personal, behavioural, and environmental factors that affect individual actions. After completing the quiz, participants receive tailored advice to help them adopt a healthier lifestyle.

The Gulf Health Council stated that 'Wazenha' relies on collaboration across various sectors. Schools, healthcare providers, non-profit organisations, and the food industry are involved. Digital engagement and community partnerships also play a role in spreading the campaign's messages widely.

This multi-sectoral approach ensures that the campaign reaches a broad audience. It aims to tackle rising health challenges and protect future generations' well-being by promoting healthier living habits.
