Green Qassim Land Initiative Achieves Milestone With Over 7.5 Million Trees Planted

The Green Qassim Land Initiative has made significant progress in its tree-planting efforts, resulting in the planting of 7,521,316 trees across various locations in the region during its fifteenth phase. This initiative is part of a comprehensive strategy to enhance vegetation cover, combat desertification, and improve life quality, aligning with the National Environment Strategy and Saudi Vision 2030.

Launched in 1438 AH, the initiative has received continuous support from Dr. Faisal bin Mishaal bin Saud bin Abdulaziz, Governor of Qassim Region, and Abdulrahman Alfadley, Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture. This backing has been crucial for sustaining and expanding the initiative's scope over the years.

Eng. Salman Al-Swainah, Director General of the ministry's branch in Qassim Region, highlighted that this initiative stands out as one of the Kingdom's most prominent environmental efforts due to its tangible outcomes. The implementation occurs in two annual phases—March and October—to ensure suitable climatic conditions for tree growth and sustainability.

Al-Swainah stressed that effective collaboration among government bodies, private sectors, environmental groups, and volunteers has been vital for the initiative's success. This cooperation reflects an increasing societal awareness regarding afforestation's importance and vegetation's role in maintaining ecological balance.

The Green Qassim Land Initiative plays a crucial role in supporting Saudi Arabia's broader strategy to develop vegetation cover and mitigate climate change effects. It also aims to achieve environmental sustainability by raising community awareness and encouraging environmental volunteering.
