RCRC Chief Eng. Ibrahim Al-Sultan Thanks Saudi Leadership For Riyadh Metro Project Inauguration
Eng. Ibrahim bin Muhammad Al-Sultan, Minister of State and Chief Executive of the Royal Commission for Riyadh City (RCRC), expressed gratitude to King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman for inaugurating the Riyadh Metro project. This significant development is set to transform transportation in the capital, benefiting both residents and visitors with its extensive six-line network.
The metro project, led by RCRC, aims to create a sustainable public transport system that caters to Riyadh's growing mobility needs. The initiative aligns with the city's rapid population growth and urban expansion. It also addresses the increasing reliance on private vehicles. Eng. Al-Sultan emphasized that this project will redefine Riyadh's image and improve transportation efficiency.

Several critical factors were considered during the development of the Riyadh Metro to ensure its effectiveness. These included analyzing traffic volumes on major roads and intersections, understanding trip origins and destinations within the city, and evaluating passenger capacity for each metro line to meet demand effectively.
The project's impact on the road network was also assessed, aiming to reduce congestion, lower fuel consumption, and decrease pollution. Travel times along public transport routes were evaluated to enhance efficiency. These measures are crucial for improving Riyadh's overall mobility framework.
Eng. Al-Sultan noted that the metro system spans 176 kilometers with 85 stations, built entirely in a single phase. It boasts high design and technical specifications that align with Riyadh's economic, social, environmental, and urban characteristics. The project aims to increase public transport usage for daily trips while offering multiple mobility options beyond private cars.
The metro will contribute significantly to enhancing quality of life by promoting a healthy lifestyle through walkable environments. It provides easy access to public transportation stations within developed urban settings surrounded by commercial, cultural, and tourist attractions.
Environmental Sustainability Efforts
The project supports environmental sustainability by reducing pollution from car emissions and cutting fuel consumption. Advanced technologies in trains, buses, stations, and facilities help reduce energy use. These efforts align with Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030 programs aimed at achieving sustainability goals.
Eng. Al-Sultan thanked Riyadh residents for their cooperation during construction despite its impact on traffic flow at sites. He also expressed gratitude to RCRC partners from public and private sectors for their collaboration in mobilizing resources for the project.
Additionally, he acknowledged the dedication of the commission team, consultants, global consortiums, local and international companies involved in implementing this successful project.
