Grand Mosque's Spectacular Lighting Upgrade: Over 120,000 Units Installed

The Grand Mosque, a beacon of spiritual significance for millions worldwide, showcases an impressive array of over 120,000 lighting units that illuminate its courtyards, roof, minarets, and expansions. This extensive lighting display underscores the meticulous care and attention the wise leadership dedicates to the Two Holy Mosques, enhancing their majestic presence.

Among these, approximately 6,900 large chandeliers and more than 500 uniquely shaped chandeliers, lanterns, and lamps adorn the mosque. These fixtures are not only functional but also serve as artistic expressions, with some engraved with verses from the Holy Quran. The designs are inspired by Islamic motifs, adding to the spiritual ambiance of the Grand Mosque.

Grand Mosque's Lighting Revamp

In addition to traditional lighting, the mosque has embraced modern technology with over 1,000 LED lighting units strategically placed throughout its premises. These units are connected to a special control station equipped with the latest in lighting technology. This setup not only enhances the aesthetic appeal of the mosque but also promotes energy efficiency and sustainability.

The design of the Grand Mosque's lighting fixtures harmonizes with its architectural style. Made from stainless steel coated with 2-micron gold and weighing 280 kilograms each, these chandeliers are built to last. They feature a dynamic and flexible suspension system that is resistant to air currents and climate changes, ensuring their durability.

The General Authority for the Care of the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet's Mosque takes on the significant responsibility of maintaining these lighting units. Regular maintenance includes polishing and ensuring the spotlights and their connections function correctly. Special attention is given to the lanterns of Ismail's Stone, with complete replacements made in case of failure.

Maintenance teams employ specialized techniques for rehabilitating and maintaining metals. This includes stripping old paint from lantern parts, treating them, and then polishing them before applying a new coat of gold water with a thickness of 4 microns. This meticulous care ensures that each piece retains its beauty and functionality.

Furthermore, monthly maintenance is conducted on the three Ismail's Stone chandeliers. These unique lanterns are designed with arches and a glass background that allows light to pass through, ending in a crescent-shaped head. They house a 40-watt LED spotlight that emits a serene green glow, contributing to the tranquil atmosphere of the Grand Mosque.

This comprehensive approach to lighting at the Grand Mosque not only enhances its beauty but also reflects a commitment to preserving its spiritual and cultural heritage. Through advanced technology and dedicated maintenance efforts, the mosque continues to be a source of inspiration and devotion for visitors from around the globe.
