Grand Hajj Symposium Opens In Jeddah To Discuss Capability In Hajj And Contemporary Developments
The 49th Grand Hajj Symposium commenced in Jeddah, focusing on "Capability in Hajj and Contemporary Developments." Organised by the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah with the Council of Senior Scholars and the King Abdulaziz Foundation for Research and Archives, it gathered scholars from across the Islamic world. Minister of Hajj and Umrah Dr. Tawfig Al-Rabiah inaugurated the event, highlighting its role as an intellectual platform uniting thinkers to emphasise Hajj's religious and cultural importance.
Dr. Al-Rabiah detailed new initiatives launched this year, including infrastructure projects by the Royal Commission for Makkah City and Holy Sites. These projects feature 170,000 square meters of shaded areas, 20,000 trees planted, and rubber walkways to enhance pilgrims' comfort. He also mentioned healthcare improvements like a new emergency hospital, 15 ambulance units, 71 rapid intervention points, and 64 two-story health complexes.

The symposium also highlighted transportation advancements with the inauguration of the General Transport Center. This model integrates buses and the Haraman High-Speed Railway into a flexible system. The General Presidency for the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and Prophet's Mosque has completed preparations with upgraded audiovisual equipment, childcare centers, and enhanced services to meet pilgrims' diverse needs.
Prince Faisal bin Salman bin Abdulaziz addressed attendees as Special Advisor to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques. He underscored Saudi Arabia's dedication to serving pilgrims since King Abdulaziz Al Saud unified the nation. Prince Faisal noted that serving pilgrims is a sacred honor passed through generations of Saudi leadership.
Prince Faisal announced the launch of the Hajj and Two Holy Mosques History Forum by the King Abdulaziz Foundation in collaboration with the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah. This forum aims to promote scholarly exchange on the rich heritage of the Two Holy Mosques globally. It serves as a scientific platform encouraging research on this significant topic.
Grand Mufti Sheikh Abdulaziz Al-Sheikh's remarks were delivered by Sheikh Dr. Fahd Al-Majed at the symposium. He highlighted that this event has explored crucial topics related to Hajj for over four decades. This year's theme focuses on "Capability" in Islamic jurisprudence, addressing its practical implications amid contemporary developments.
