Dubai's Gov Games Introduces Exciting Burj Khalifa Climb For International Teams
The fifth edition of the Gov Games has introduced an innovative challenge that has captured the attention of participants and spectators alike. This year, a bonus round was added to the competition, inviting teams from across the globe to partake in a race up the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, the tallest building in the world. This event took place today, setting the stage for the main Gov Games event scheduled from 29 February to 3 March.
Teams from Kutná Hora, Czech Republic; Oviedo, Spain; and Copenhagen, Denmark excelled in this challenge, securing 16 bonus points with completion times of 27:39.51 minutes, 27:39.90 minutes, and 28:18.85 minutes respectively. The Burj Khalifa Climb is part of the 'Battle of the Cities' category, designed to test human endurance, strategic thinking, and teamwork.

The inclusion of the Burj Khalifa Climb in the Gov Games has provided an unparalleled opportunity for competitors to gain pre-event bonus points. This challenge featured international teams, each composed of five athletes tethered together by a single rope as they ascended the 160 floors of the 828-metre tall megastructure. The finalists representing cities from four continents including London, Brisbane, Colorado, and Copenhagen have shown remarkable determination and teamwork.
Marwan bin Essa, Director of Gov Games, highlighted the significance of the Burj Challenge. He stated, "The Burj Challenge takes our competition beyond a physical challenge. It stands as a symbol for how competitors can push their boundaries and break new barriers when they work together with a shared bond and drive that can take them to the top." He further expressed his excitement for what this new challenge brings to the competition and acknowledged Emaar's support in making the first Burj Challenge for teams a reality.
Unlike traditional races, the Burj Challenge does not have a set time limit. Instead, it emphasizes teamwork, strategy, and the collective goal of reaching the top together. The scoring is based on the time of the last arriving team member to ensure that every step is a collective effort. Points earned during this climb will contribute to each team's overall score in the 'Battle of the Cities' category.
This year's Gov Games is hosting international teams from various countries including the UAE, Australia, Bahrain, Denmark, Norway, United Kingdom, United States, Spain, Italy, Germany, Uzbekistan, Poland, Czech Republic, Russia, Slovakia, Lithuania, Netherlands, France, and Portugal in its 'Battle of the Cities' category. The introduction of the Burj Khalifa Climb has indeed set a high bar for what promises to be an exhilarating edition of the Gov Games.
