RTA Launches Innovative Road Safety Awareness Programme For Children In Dubai

In a bustling corner of Dubai’s Ripe Market at Academy Park, a new initiative is steering young cyclists toward safety with a spirited twist. “Go With The Floooow,” a road safety awareness program, has rolled out an innovative outdoor “driving school” for children, offering hands-on experience with road safety skills, and the unique chance to pedal along a track that feels every bit like the real roads. Designed for kids to navigate traffic scenarios with confidence, it merges the thrill of biking with life-saving lessons in a child-centered setting.

Every Saturday and Sunday, this outdoor setup invites children to hop onto specially designed four-wheeled pedal bikes and pedal through realistic road setups—stop signs, crosswalks, and all. Created by Barbara Koenen-Geerdink, a Dutch mother and cycling enthusiast, “Go With The Floooow” aims to cultivate a generation of road-savvy youth. Koenen-Geerdink, who lives and breathes cycling, saw the program as a natural extension of her passion for safe cycling. "As an avid cyclist and mum of two young boys, I understand the importance of road safety, particularly for children. 'Go With The Floooow’ is about giving kids the confidence and awareness to stay safe while enjoying the benefits of cycling,” she shared.

Endorsed by Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), this program aligns with the authority’s commitment to road safety through collaborative community engagement. It’s an interactive way for kids to internalize essential rules like navigating intersections, observing traffic signs, and maintaining control. But “Go With The Floooow” goes beyond just safety; it encourages a lifestyle of physical activity, showing children that staying active can be a fun, valuable part of their daily routine.

School groups and families are also welcome to participate through special weekday bookings. This initiative, with its accessible format and strong support from the RTA, stands as a model for how public-private partnerships can foster community safety in engaging ways.
