The Global Women’s Forum Dubai 2024 commenced with a compelling discussion titled 'Social Innovation: Creating Change for Good.’ This event, under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, featured Helena Lersch from TikTok, Asa Skogstrom Feldt from IKEA Social Entrepreneurship, and Dr. Nawar Assem from Dream Organisation. The panellists emphasised women's natural inclination towards fostering a better life for all, positioning them as central figures in driving social change.
Hessa Tahlak, Assistant Undersecretary of Social Development at the UAE's Ministry of Community Development, moderated the session. She highlighted that women possess the ability to transform entrenched mindsets and societal views. Empowering women is crucial for them to excel in their roles within communities. Skogstrom Feldt shared how IKEA's investment in social entrepreneurs has yielded positive outcomes by reaching vulnerable groups and acting as a catalyst for change.

Dr. Assem discussed how women have become influential change agents, effectively easing tensions and initiating dialogues on challenging subjects within their communities. They address various social issues, including mental health concerns. Lersch elaborated on TikTok's successful partnerships with organisations to inspire social change. A collaboration with the Emirates Airline Festival of Literature transformed TikTok into a hub for authors who influence mindsets positively.
TikTok's partnerships in the UAE, such as those with TDRA and Dubai Media Council, have significantly enhanced digital safety. Lersch noted that numerous other public and private collaborations are achieving similar objectives. The panellists acknowledged that while women possess an entrepreneurial spirit, some challenges require generational efforts to overcome. In this context, women need support to explore new opportunities and redefine their social missions.
