Global Water Organization Charter Signed In Riyadh Under HRH Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman's Patronage

The Global Water Organization (GWO) has officially commenced operations from its headquarters in Riyadh. This significant event was held under the patronage of His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister. Founding member states signed the organization's charter, marking a crucial step in addressing global water challenges through international cooperation.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah attended the ceremony. He conveyed greetings from Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and HRH the Crown Prince to delegates from participating countries and organizations. In his speech, he stressed the importance of the GWO in tackling worldwide water issues with a holistic approach.

Global Water Organization Launched in Riyadh

Prince Faisal highlighted Saudi Arabia's commitment to strengthening international initiatives through partnerships between countries and governments. "The launch of the Global Water Organization affirms Saudi Arabia's commitment to strengthening international initiatives and addressing global challenges through partnerships based on cooperation between countries and governments," he stated. He expressed hope that the organization would become a platform for sustainable solutions, supporting developing nations in enhancing their water capabilities.

Saudi Arabia will provide financial and logistical support to the GWO for five years. Prince Faisal emphasized that collective action is essential for achieving shared objectives. He invited all countries and private sector entities to join this initiative, underscoring the need for global collaboration.

Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture Abdulrahman Alfadley also participated in the ceremony. He noted that signing the charter reinforces international responsibility to preserve water resources. Alfadley mentioned that water is not just a resource but a source of economic and social development globally.

Alfadley described the organization as "not just a platform that brings countries together, but a collective global mind working to develop and integrate the efforts of countries and organizations to address water challenges comprehensively." He explained that GWO aims to transform traditional water management approaches by ensuring availability at the right time and place while recognizing its impact on various sectors.

Sustainable Solutions for Water Management

The GWO will lead efforts to address water-related challenges beyond scarcity, considering impacts on economy, health, food security, and supply chains amid climate change. Alfadley emphasized an integrated system covering all stages of the water cycle, adopting innovative economic models based on cost-benefit analysis.

The organization plans to introduce new financing mechanisms, reduce reliance on government subsidies, and involve the private sector actively. These steps aim to enhance sustainability in managing global water resources effectively.

Founding Members Sign Charter

The ceremony saw representatives from founding countries—Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, Spain, Senegal, Pakistan, Greece (Hellenic Republic), and Mauritania—signing the charter. The GWO represents a turning point in international cooperation on water issues through research programs, expertise exchange, and innovative solutions enhancing sustainability worldwide.

The Global Water Organization aims to strengthen efforts by countries and organizations in addressing comprehensive water challenges effectively. It seeks to foster collaboration among nations for sustainable management of vital resources globally.
