Innovative Solutions To Water Scarcity Sought By Global Water Award
The UAE Water Aid Foundation, known as Suqia UAE, is calling for entries into the 4th cycle of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Water Award. With a generous prize pool of USD 1 million, the award seeks to discover innovative solutions in water production, distribution, desalination, and purification using renewable energy. This initiative aligns with Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum's vision to enhance the quality of life for millions worldwide by addressing the critical issue of water scarcity.
Since its inception, the award has attracted global participation, rewarding 31 winners from 22 countries for their contributions to water desalination and purification through renewable sources such as solar, wind, and hydropower. Participants interested in this cycle must meet specific criteria, including demonstrating the quality and safety of the produced water, its production capacity, the integration of renewable energy, and providing an environmental impact assessment alongside a life cycle cost analysis.

The award is divided into several categories: Innovative Projects, Innovative Research & Development, Innovative Individual, and Innovative Crisis Solutions. Each category targets different aspects of water solutions. The Innovative Projects Award is for commercialized or near-commercial solutions that utilize renewable energy. In contrast, the Innovative Research & Development Award focuses on prototyped solutions that enhance potable water production and distribution.
The Innovative Individual Award celebrates personal contributions to technological solutions addressing water scarcity. Meanwhile, the Innovative Crisis Solutions Award is dedicated to emergency relief solutions providing clean drinking water during crises, without necessarily using renewable energy.
Suqia UAE extends an invitation to institutions, companies, research centers, innovators, and youth globally to participate in this prestigious award. The deadline for application submissions is set for April 30, 2024. Interested parties can apply through Suqia UAE's official website.
This initiative not only offers a platform for innovators to showcase their solutions but also contributes significantly towards mitigating the global water crisis by leveraging renewable energy sources. By adhering to the guidelines set forth by Suqia UAE, participants stand a chance to make a substantial impact on improving access to clean water in disadvantaged communities across the globe.
