Global Religious Leaders Meet In Malaysia To Foster Interfaith Harmony

The International Conference of Religious Leaders, a significant event co-organized by the Prime Minister's Office of Malaysia and the Muslim World League, took place yesterday in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Under the patronage of Malaysian Prime Minister Dato' Seri Anwar Ibrahim, the conference saw the participation of Sheikh Dr. Mohammad Alissa, Secretary General of the Muslim World League, alongside approximately 2,000 religious figures and intellectuals from 57 countries. This gathering is a part of ongoing efforts by Malaysia and the Muslim World League to foster a global religious platform aimed at promoting cooperation and harmony among the world's major religions.

During his keynote speech, Alissa highlighted the critical role of religious leaders in promoting peace and combating extremist ideologies. He pointed out the current global challenges, including cultural and civilizational clashes, emphasizing the urgent need for action to promote harmony. Alissa also mentioned the decline in global values and resolve, citing the conflict in Gaza as a stark example of international failure to prevent violence.

Prime Minister Ibrahim echoed these sentiments, stressing the importance of religious leaders in providing guidance and promoting justice. He warned against divisive claims of a clash of civilizations and politics, urging religious leaders to be more influential in their communities.

The conference concluded with a final statement that underscored the unique value of every human being and rejected discrimination based on religion, gender, color, or ethnicity. It emphasized the vital role of religious followers in fostering global peace and societal harmony. The statement also advocated for effective dialogue as a means to resolve conflicts and improve inter-civilizational relations.

Furthermore, the participants called for increased cooperation among major religious institutions worldwide to serve humanitarian causes while respecting religious and cultural specificities. They urged for moderate discourse that highlights religious tolerance, solidarity among societies, and rejection of extremist narratives.

A recommendation was made to establish a high-level committee comprising religious leaders, experts, and thinkers under the chairmanship of the Cabinet of Malaysia and the General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation. This committee aims to form specialized task forces to address global conflicts, including an immediate call for intervention to halt the war in Gaza and ensure the rights of the Palestinian people are recognized.

This conference represents a pivotal step towards building a more peaceful and harmonious global society through interfaith dialogue and cooperation. The initiatives discussed and recommendations made during this event highlight a collective commitment to addressing some of the most pressing issues facing humanity today.
