HRH Crown Prince's Patronage Elevates GAIN Summit To Global Platform

Dr. Abdullah bin Sharaf Al-Ghamdi, President of the Saudi Data and AI Authority (SDAIA), expressed his gratitude to His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud for supporting the third Global AI (GAIN) Summit. The event was held from September 10 to 12 at the King Abdulaziz International Conference Center in Riyadh.

The summit attracted 456 speakers and notable attendees from 100 countries. Over 30,000 people attended in person, participating in more than 150 sessions and workshops. Additionally, 3.7 million individuals joined virtually from around the globe, marking a significant achievement for such events.

GAIN Summit Achieves Global Reach

Al-Ghamdi highlighted that the Crown Prince's patronage significantly contributed to the summit's success, enhancing its momentum and engagement levels among participants. He noted that this support was reflected in the high attendance and interaction from both speakers and attendees.

The summit provided an international platform for discussions on various topics such as algorithms, AI systems, big data, infrastructure, human capabilities, policies, regulations, and AI ethics. Over three days, more than 80 local and international agreements were signed along with 25 announcements and initiatives aimed at maximizing AI benefits.

An accompanying exhibition featured presentations from major global technology companies. The event saw extensive participation from AI experts, scientists, academics, tech company CEOs, intellectuals, and economic policymakers worldwide.

Focus on Human-AI Interaction

The summit emphasized the interaction between humans and AI. It explored AI's role in enhancing artistic expression and psychological aspects of human-AI interaction. This provided business leaders with insights into the evolving AI landscape and its impact on strategic decision-making and productivity.

Al-Ghamdi affirmed that the third GAIN Summit resulted in numerous positive outcomes. These included several launches, initiatives, and agreements aimed at optimizing global AI benefits to serve humanity better.

Notable Announcements

Among the key announcements were the establishment of the first international AI Olympics with participation from 25 countries and the announcement of "ALLaM" as the best large Arabic language model. Saudi Arabia also partnered with the United Nations on AI governance.

The launch of the International Center for AI Research and Ethics in Riyadh under UNESCO’s patronage was another highlight. Additionally, there was a partnership with OECD on trustworthy AI and collaboration with IBM to create an AI excellence center.

Collaborations with Tech Giants

The summit also saw collaboration with Microsoft to establish a generative AI excellence center. Another significant initiative announced was the "Million Saudis in AI" program aimed at enhancing AI skills among Saudis.

Overall, Dr. Al-Ghamdi emphasized that these efforts aim to ensure that AI technologies serve humanity effectively while advancing global discussions on shaping the future of this sector for everyone's benefit.
