Sheikh Mohammed Honours Innovators at Global Government Excellence Awards

At the prestigious World Governments Summit in 2024, an event marked by the gathering of global leaders and innovators, the second edition of the Global Government Excellence Award saw its winners celebrated in a ceremony led by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai. The ceremony was graced by the presence of dignitaries including H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of The Executive Council of Dubai.

The Office of the Vice President of the Republic of Serbia was distinguished with the 'Technological Innovation for Social Inclusion' award for its groundbreaking 'SOS for Deaf People' initiative. This initiative empowers the audibly-impaired and hard of hearing community by enabling them to make video calls to specialized interpreters, thus facilitating seamless communication with others.

Innovators Celebrated at Government Excellence Awards

Similarly, the Office of the Vice President of Rwanda received accolades for 'Government Innovation and Public Service Excellence' through its Imihigo Performance Contracts project. Aimed at bolstering accountability, transparency, and efficiency, this project evaluates government officials and agencies based on their performance against set goals and indicators.

The 'Sustainability and Environmental Conservation' award was bestowed upon the Republic of Costa Rica's National Forestry Finance Fund (FONAFIFO) for its Payment for Environmental Services Program (PES). This innovative program offers financial incentives to landowners who contribute to forest ecosystem protection and combat land degradation.

The Ministry of Digital Development and Communications of Mongolia was recognized with the 'Digital Government Transformation' award for its e-Mongolia project. This initiative has significantly streamlined government service delivery, leading to considerable cost savings.

In Brazil, the Municipality of Curitiba's Speaks Curitiba project was honored with the 'Civic Engagement and Community Empowerment' award. This project fosters collaboration between citizens and municipal officials in decision-making processes, especially concerning budget planning.

The High School of ICT, Postal Administration, and Finance in Brno, Czech Republic, was awarded for 'Excellence in Cybersecurity and Technology Education' through its Junior Centrum Excellence. This program is dedicated to enhancing students' capabilities in cybersecurity and preparing them for a digital future.

The Global Government Excellence Award is designed to foster improvement in government service delivery, develop public service centers, and boost employees' efficiency. The selection process focused on identifying innovative projects and practices that positively impact quality of life, achieve sustainable results, and generate positive social, economic, or governmental outcomes. A total of 68 government agency innovations from 32 countries were nominated for this prestigious award.

This recognition not only highlights the innovative spirit of governments worldwide but also sets a benchmark for excellence in public service delivery. By acknowledging these achievements, the award encourages further innovation and collaboration among governments to address global challenges effectively.
