Global Food Week 2025 In Abu Dhabi Concludes First Day With Focus On Food Security And Sustainability

The inaugural day of Global Food Week 2025 wrapped up at the ADNEC Centre in Abu Dhabi, marking the start of a series of forward-thinking initiatives and panel discussions. This event underscores Abu Dhabi's pivotal role in addressing global food security issues. Running until 23rd October, the week includes four main events: the Abu Dhabi International Food Exhibition, Abu Dhabi Date Palm Exhibition, Global Food Talks, and the AgriTech and Farmers Forum.

During the Global Food Talks, experts and innovators gathered to explore sustainable food systems. The session "Farming on the Frontlines" highlighted climate-smart agriculture. Meanwhile, "From Global to Local" examined how multinational companies can bolster local policies. The Alternative National Service Programme by ADAFSA discussed strategies for handling food crises proactively.

Global Food Week 2025 Day One Highlights

The AgriTech Forum emphasised agricultural innovation and digital transformation within the food value chain. Presentations included the "NutriMark" platform and a digital food corridor connecting Africa with the GCC. Initiatives aimed at retraining traditional farmers for digital economy integration were also discussed. Other topics covered water challenges in date palm cultivation and antimicrobial resistance in animal production.

The session "Power Struggles in Agri-Investment" delved into balancing venture capital with sovereign wealth funds. Another session on "International Cooperation in Animal Health" showcased successful collaboration models between reference centres and laboratories. Discussions concluded with a "Fireside Chat" focusing on sustainable food packaging solutions.

The 4th Abu Dhabi International Food Exhibition reaffirmed its status as a global hub for leading companies and brands across three zones: government entities, local enterprises, and international pavilions. Concurrently, the 11th Abu Dhabi Date Palm Exhibition featured over 20 countries and nearly 90 exhibitors, alongside a Hosted Buyers Programme to foster business relationships.

On another front, the Abu Dhabi Investment Office (ADIO) introduced the Protein Alternatives Initiative through its Food and Water Security Cluster. This initiative involved local and international experts signing three memoranda of understanding to establish protein fermentation centres in Abu Dhabi, aiming to enhance sustainable food production.

Culinary Experiences

The National Coffee Tasting Championship commenced with 48 competitors from across the UAE participating under the Specialty Coffee Association's organisation. Additionally, the Global Gourmet Exhibition offered live cooking shows featuring international cuisines like Mexican and Japanese dishes, providing visitors with exclusive tasting experiences.

In another session titled "Artificial Intelligence and Supply-Demand Shocks," experts discussed predictive modelling's role in decision-making within the food value chain. These discussions aimed to address supply-demand challenges effectively using advanced technology solutions.

The event successfully highlighted Abu Dhabi's commitment to leading global efforts in food security while fostering international cooperation through various exhibitions and forums.
